The cast of Masters of the Universe
The cast of the new movie is already known and features some prominent names. Leading actor Nicholas Galitzine was last seen together with Anne Hathaway in "The Idea of You". A first official image from Amazon MGM Studios already gave an impression of his muscular appearance and his mighty sword.
Playing alongside him is Camila Mendes, known from "Riverdale". She takes on the role of Teela – protector of Prince Adam and daughter of Duncan. Duncan, or Man-At-Arms, is embodied by Idris Elba. He is one of the most important allies in the fight against the dark forces and is one of the few insiders who know Adam's secret. His brother Fisto will also be part of the story. The role of Evil-Lyn will be played by Alison Brie, who is known to comedy fans from the series "Community".
Of course, He-Man's fierce adversary Skeletor will not be missing. He is played by Oscar winner Jared Leto. In his long Hollywood career, Leto has appeared in films such as "Requiem for a Dream", "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Morbius". Most recently, he was part of the cast of the sci-fi film "Tron: Ares". It is expected that Leto and several other actors will bring their characters to life using performance capture techniques. Skeletor's entourage includes Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops and "Game of Thrones" star Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man.
Travis Knight, who has already made a name for himself with the animated film "Kubo: The Brave Samurai" and gained experience in the "Transformers" universe with "Bumblebee", will direct the reboot. The screenplay was written by Chris Butler, known for "ParaNorman" and "Mister Link".
The plot
According to initial information, the new film takes a significantly different path to the classic origin story of He-Man. Instead of starting the story directly on Eternia, the film will reportedly begin with ten-year-old Adam making an emergency landing on Earth in a spaceship. In the process, he is separated from his magic sword – the only link to his homeland.
Only after decades of searching does Adam find his way back to his home planet, where he has to face the battle against Skeletor. Before he can become He-Man, however, he is forced to confront his own past. The trailer will probably provide a deeper insight into the plot. Earth played no role in the earlier animated series; only the 1987 live-action film with Dolph Lundgren relocated "He-Man" to New Jersey for "budget reasons".
