The Conjuring: A Success Story

"The Conjuring" film series kicked off in 2013 and has grown into an enormous franchise in recent years. The first movie "The Conjuring" grossed over 320 million US dollars worldwide on a budget of only 20 million US dollars. With a budget of 40 million dollars, "The Conjuring 2" also achieved worldwide sales of over 320 million US dollars. Even "The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It", which was released in 2021 during the pandemic, grossed almost 210 million dollars. If you then add in all the spin-offs such as "The Nun" and "Annabelle", the franchise has made over 2 billion dollars. A total success for film distributor Warner and producer Blumhouse.

Story

So what is "The Conjuring 4" about? To be honest, very little is known about the plot. The only certainty is that it is the final chapter in the Warren saga. In an interview, James Wan emphasized the attention and dedication with which "The Conjuring 4: Last Rites" is being worked upon. It is of great importance that the story is emotionally coherent and does justice to the beloved characters, in particular as it is about bidding farewell to them.

Cast and Crew

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to their leading roles one last time. We will also get to see "Bohemian Rhapsody" actor Ben Hardy, Mia Tomlinson, Steve Coulter and Shannon Kook. Kook was already involved in the previous films in his role as Drew Thomas.

The director is Michael Chaves, a proven veteran of the "Conjuring" universe. He was previously responsible for "The Conjuring 3", "The Nun 2" and "The Curse of La Llorona". James Wan, the creator of the film series, will take over production. The screenplay is by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also wrote the scripts for the previous installments.

Further Conjuring Projects

Although "Last Rites" marks the conclusion of the main series, the "Conjuring" universe is far from over. Michael Chaves has already hinted that there is plenty of potential for further stories. For example, a "The Conjuring" series has also been commissioned to take place after the movies.

The decision to conclude the main series with part 4 is certainly understandable. The Warrens, whose story is supposedly based on true events, are getting pretty old. Another movie with the aging actors would be difficult to make credible. At the same time, however, the end of the main series opens up new opportunities to expand the "Conjuring" universe and tell new stories. The demon Valak in particular could provide further fear and terror.

The past spin-offs, such as "Annabelle" and "The Nun", have already proven that the franchise also succeeds without the Warrens and thrills a large audience. We will have to wait and see whether "The Conjuring 4: Last Rites" can match the success of its predecessors and provide the film series with a worthy finale.

Release Date of Conjuring 4

We don't have to be patient much longer: Part 4 is due to be released on September 5, 2025. Filming is currently in full swing. James Wan published a first set photo on his Instagram profile in October 2024. If production progresses swiftly, nothing should stand in the way of the grand finale in September.
