Rumor: Scream 8 with Neve Campbell in planning
Scream 7 awaits us first in 2026
"Scream 7" hasn't even been released and rumors are already circulating about another sequel. According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, those responsible for the horror franchise are already planning "Scream 8".
Richtman announced something similar a few months ago – but this time with the addition that they would like to continue working with Neve Campbell. Campbell has been closely associated with the slasher series for decades. From the first "Scream" to "Scream 5", she played the lead role of Sidney Prescott. However, the actress did not appear in the last film to date, "Scream 6". She will make her comeback in the upcoming "Scream 7".
Contextualizing the rumor
To be fair, it should be emphasized that there are only a few other clues about "Scream 8" so far. There are only rumors from insider sources. Whether these turn out to be true remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain: another sequel to the horror series would by no means be a surprise. After all, the franchise continues to enjoy great popularity. Parts 5 and 6 managed to make the series, which started in the 90s, interesting for a new audience. The inclusion of new actors such as Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera was certainly a key factor in this.
When is Scream 7 coming?
First up in the franchise is "Scream 7". Ortega and Barrera will not be involved here, however. This time, Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of the first film, is directing. The cinema release date has already been announced: The Ghostface Killer will strike again on February 27, 2026. You can find all further information about the film in our big movie preview.

Sidney Prescott
Sidney Prescott is the central character of the "Scream" film series and is considered one of the most famous characters in modern horror film history. At the beginning of the series, Sidney is a high school student in the fictional small town of Woodsboro. Her life is shaken by the brutal murder of her mother and the subsequent series of murders in which she herself becomes the target of the killer. Over the course of the films, she is repeatedly confronted with new ghostface killers – often people from her immediate environment who want to manipulate, stalk or kill her.
Despite these traumatic experiences, Sidney develops from a frightened teenager into a strong, self-determined woman. Her intelligence, her survival instincts and her emotional resilience define her character.
In the later parts, especially from "Scream 3" onwards, Sidney tries to lead a secluded life away from the public eye. But the past never quite lets her go. In "Scream 5", Neve Campbell returned after the franchise took a break for a few years. Sidney Prescott is much more than just a victim: she is the moral and emotional center of the "Scream" saga – a character who not only survives the terror, but grows from it.
