Ted Lasso Gets a Fourth Season!
Ted is to coach a women's team
It was supposed to end after three seasons, but the story of "Ted Lasso" continues. In an interview with RadioTimes, lead actor Jason Sudeikis revealed that we can actually look forward to a fourth season!
The new season of the popular Apple series also brings with it an exciting new development: Ted will no longer be coaching the men's team at AFC Richmond, but will instead dedicate himself to a women's team.
This development should certainly come as no surprise to many fans, as Rebecca, played by Hannah Waddingham, already campaigned for the creation of a women's team at AFC Richmond in the third season. Now it seems clear that Ted will be back on the sidelines in England after his brief period as a children's coach.
In addition to Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, some familiar faces from previous seasons are also likely to be back. Back in August 2023, there were rumors of Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Jeremy Swift in the role of Higgins returning. Negotiations are also underway with Juno Temple, who could also come back.
Brett Goldstein will also act as screenwriter and executive producer. Whether he will also be seen in his iconic role as Roy Kent is still open. There is no exact release date yet. According to Sudeikis, the script is currently being worked on intensively, meaning that a release can be expected at the end of 2025 at the earliest, but more realistically in the course of 2026. According to current reports, production of the new episodes is set to begin in July.
You can watch the first three seasons of "Ted Lasso" on Apple TV+.
"Ted Lasso" – More Than Just a Sports Series
The Apple TV series "Ted Lasso" has quickly become an audience favorite since its premiere in 2020. With its mix of humor, heart and deep characters, the show offers far more than just a typical sports story. It tells of humanity, team spirit and the power of positivity.
The Plot
The focus is on Ted Lasso (played by Jason Sudeikis), an American college football coach who is unexpectedly hired to coach a British soccer club, AFC Richmond. What's special: Ted has no experience with soccer. Club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) has deliberately hired him to drive the club to ruin – an act of revenge against her ex-husband. But Ted quickly wins the hearts of the players, staff and fans with his optimistic and unflappable nature. His strategy is based less on tactics and more on humanity, motivation and team spirit.
Characters With Depth
What sets "Ted Lasso" apart from other series are the multi-layered characters. Ted himself is not only a good-natured optimist, but also a person who struggles with personal challenges. His constant cheerfulness hides an inner insecurity and the pain of his failed marriage. Rebecca evolves from a bitter woman into a warm-hearted and loyal leader. She begins to see the club not as a tool of revenge, but as something she truly cares about.
Other exciting characters include the talented but arrogant striker Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), who learns over the course of the series that success doesn't just depend on selfishness. The grizzled but lovable veteran Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) provides a perfect complement to Ted's positivity with his gruff but honest manner. Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed), who starts out as a shy kitman, also undergoes a fascinating character development that leads from modesty to ambition and finally to moral conflict.
Success and Critical Acclaim
The series was highly praised by critics and won numerous awards, including several Emmy Awards. Jason Sudeikis' acting performance and the sensitive script were particularly acclaimed. The show depicts how an optimistic and compassionate approach can overcome even the toughest challenges – a message that is particularly touching in today's world. The realistic portrayal of mental health and personal struggles was also well received. Ted himself suffers from panic attacks, which increasingly affect him as the series progresses, but he learns to face his fears.
Another factor in the success of "Ted Lasso" is its unique humor. The series combines clever wordplay with charming misunderstandings between American and British culture. But despite the humor, there is always an emotional core that touches viewers deeply.
Themes and Messages
"Ted Lasso" is more than a sports series – it is an inspiring story about kindness, perseverance and self-discovery. It shows that true leadership is not based on authority, but on trust and empathy. Ted proves that it is sometimes more important to motivate and empower people than to focus purely on sporting success.
The importance of community is also a central theme. The characters learn that they are stronger together than alone. This is particularly evident in the relationship between Ted and his assistant Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), which is characterized by deep friendship and blind trust.
Conclusion
"Ted Lasso" is a series that goes far beyond soccer. It combines humor with emotional depth and shows that kindness, courage and solidarity can be the key to success and happiness. The show has managed to inspire a wide audience – not just soccer fans, but also people who love inspiring and heart-warming stories. Anyone looking for a series that makes them laugh and think at the same time should definitely give it a chance.
