4. Cosmopolis (2012)
In David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis", Pattinson played Eric Packer, a young, rich financial tycoon who spends a day driving around Manhattan in his limousine. The movie, an adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel, was intellectually demanding and challenged both the audience as well as the lead actor.
Pattinson's performance as an emotionless and nihilistic man who gradually loses his mind demonstrated his ability to convince even in complex and experimental films. "Cosmopolis" was a turning point in his career, freeing him from his image of a teen idol and paving the way for more challenging projects.
5. The Rover (2014)
Pattinson stars alongside Guy Pearce in the gritty Australian neo-western "The Rover" by David Michôd. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which a man (Pearce) wants to get back his stolen car. Pattinson plays Rey, a mentally impaired young man who is taken hostage by Pearce's character.
