The Cast of Jumanji 3
As seen in the photos, the four main stars of the series are, of course, back on board: Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In addition, other returning cast members are known: Awkwafina, Madison Iseman, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, and Danny DeVito are all back. Joining the cast for the first time are Burn Gorman ("The Expanse") and Brittany O'Grady ("The White Lotus"). Jake Kasdan, who directed the previous two installments, is back in the director's chair.
When Will Jumanji 3 Be Released?
"Jumanji" fans will get to see the new – and for now, final – adventure on the big screen later this year. The blockbuster's theatrical release was recently pushed back slightly. The new release date is now set for December 25, 2026.
December at the Movies: Avengers, Dune, and Jumanji
As things stand, the December movie calendar is packed. Just one week earlier, "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Dune 3" are set to premiere. Rumors have been swirling that one of the two films could still shift its release date. However, since "Jumanji 3" was only recently postponed, this date is likely to be kept.
Also: The final title of "Jumanji 3" is likely still to be announced. In any case, the designation as the third film is not without controversy. Depending on whether you count the original film from the 90s as part of the current "Jumanji" series, the upcoming film could also be called "Jumanji 4".
The Original Film from the 90s
The origins of the series date back to 1995, when "Jumanji," starring Robin Williams, hit theaters. The film, based on the children's book of the same name, told the story of a magical board game that unleashes dangers from the jungle into the real world – and quickly became a cult classic. Williams' blend of humor, heart, and a spirit of adventure left a lasting mark on the film and made it an integral part of pop culture.
The Jumanji Reboot Series
More than two decades later, the concept was reimagined: With "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" (2017) and "Jumanji: The Next Level" (2019) , the action shifted to a video game. Since then, the focus has been on the four actors Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, who act as avatars of teenagers in a dangerous jungle world. The special appeal comes from the contrast between the characters in the real world and their exaggerated game characters.
The modern "Jumanji" series quickly became a true cinematic phenomenon. Both reboots were box office hits and delivered a mix of action and comedy. The focus is on the ensemble's chemistry, the self-deprecating role reversals, and the constant evolution of the game's rules. For many fans of the reboot series, it is precisely this balance that makes "Jumanji" so fascinating: adventure and humor meet nostalgia and modern storytelling. We can now look forward with anticipation to see if "Jumanji 3" can bring the reboot trilogy to a fitting conclusion.
