What a success! The theatrical release of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has even exceeded high expectations. After its first weekend, the new film starring Tom Holland has grossed $927 million worldwide, according to Variety. It's the second-best debut of all time: Only the Marvel blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame" had an even more successful opening, raking in an impressive $1.2 billion in 2019.

Shortly before the film's release, there was speculation that "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" might debut with $800 million. Other forecasts assumed it wouldn't quite reach that figure. As it turns out, the film's opening was even more successful than anticipated. Of the total $927 million, $572 million came from 66 international markets. The film had a particularly successful opening in China, where it grossed $121 million, followed by the United Kingdom with $49 million and Mexico with $38.3 million.

Record thanks to Spider-Man and The Odyssey

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" grossed 355 million in its North American home market. This also gave the film the second-best opening of all time there – behind "Avengers: Endgame." It was an extremely close call, though: In 2019, "Avengers: Endgame" debuted with 357 million. These two films are the only ones to have ever managed to open with more than 300 million at the domestic box office.

In any case, the North American film industry has every reason to celebrate. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" played a major role in making last weekend the most successful of all time, with total earnings of 430 million. This broke the record set in 2019, when 402 million was earned. In addition to "Spider-Man," Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" also played a major role in the record-breaking result: Alongside the 355 million from "Brand New Day," the hugely successful epic contributed a strong 51 million in its third weekend.

More than just a box office success

The title "Brand New Day" already hints at it: A completely new chapter is beginning in the life of Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. After all, the people around him have forgotten that he even exists. Even those who were once particularly close to him. In addition to its impressive box office success, the film was also well-received by many critics.
