Drama Surrounding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
The sequel almost failed because of this!

It all started off so well, right? Part 1 of the "Spider-Verse" saga came out of nowhere, blew everyone away and immediately won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Four years later: the sequel is released, takes the visuals to the next level and becomes the new gold standard for stunning animation technology. The ending: a huge cliffhanger.
The grand finale was supposed to be released just a few months later, but then there was radio silence. The release date passes and we hear absolutely nothing. Rumors start to swirl, scandals become public and the future of the trilogy seems to be on shaky ground. But there's still light at the end of the tunnel: in this article, we tell you everything about the drama surrounding "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" and what to expect in the big finale!
Massive Overtime for the Spider-Verse Sequel
To understand where the problems with the new film come from, we need to briefly jump to early 2024: "Across the Spider-Verse" had already been in theaters for a while and was being celebrated worldwide for its outstanding visual style. In order to achieve this look, over 1,000 artists and technicians worked on the film. However, according to reports that suddenly emerged, things behind the scenes were in a state of chaos.
Several animators described extreme working hours: over 11 hours a day, seven days a week, for more than a year. The reason? Constant revisions – often ordered by producer Phil Lord himself. This demanding workflow caused around 100 artists to leave the project prematurely.

Impact on Beyond the Spider-Verse
The challenging experiences during the production of "Across the Spider-Verse" had direct consequences for the sequel. Although the original plan was to produce both movies almost simultaneously, "Beyond the Spider-Verse" was postponed in order to ensure that "Across the Spider-Verse" was completed on time.
Additionally, the writers' and actors' strikes in 2023 delayed production significantly, as no voice recordings could be made. Work did not resume until December 2023.
But what was particularly frustrating was the communication from the responsible studio, Sony Pictures: instead of openly stating that the theatrical release would be delayed indefinitely, they simply remained silent – leaving millions of fans to eagerly anticipate the originally planned March 2024 release date in vain. The announcement of the new date was only made a full year later at CinemaCon. Since then, it has finally been clear: the new theatrical release date for "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" is June 4, 2027.
Of course, users of the KinoCheck app have known this for quite some time. With the app, you always have all the news on your favorite topics at your fingertips – and you're guaranteed not to miss the first trailer for "Beyond the Spider-Verse"!
Despite the chaotic conditions behind the scenes during Part 2, the result was impressive, and "Across the Spider-Verse" was a great success. For this reason, at least as far as those responsible are concerned, everything remains the same for Part 3: the producers and writers continue to be Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The directors are Bob Persichetti and Justin Thompson, both of whom were already involved in the previous movies.
What Beyond the Spider-Verse Is All About
The plot of "Beyond the Spider-Verse" will pick up directly from the cliffhanger of "Across the Spider-Verse". To recap: Miles has turned the Spider-Society, centered around their leader Miguel, against him. They believe that the likely impending death of Miles' father should not be prevented. It is deemed an inevitable fate – one that Miles cannot accept.
However, during his escape from the Spider-Society, our protagonist ends up on the wrong Earth. There, he encounters an alternate version of himself, who has become the villain Prowler in this reality. Miles is now held captive by the antagonist. Meanwhile, Gwen assembles a team including Peter B. Parker and other friends to help Miles.
A central theme in "Beyond the Spider-Verse" will also be the threat posed by Spot, who already played an important role in the second movie. Spot is a former scientist who gained special powers as a result of an explosion at the end of "Into the Spider-Verse". He has become a being covered in black spots – which he can use for teleportation. Spot can travel through spaces and even dimensions via these portals. However, he is anything but happy with his condition: he blames Miles for it and therefore wants to kill his father. At the same time, because of his abilities, he poses a threat to the entire multiverse.
Miles will also have to confront the darker version of himself in "Beyond the Spider-Verse". Thematically, this confrontation fits in well with the "Spider-Verse" movies. In a way, Miles has to fight against himself, is faced with his fears and must once again surpass himself. First preview images of Miles and his darker version as Prowler have already been revealed.
The confrontation with the Spider-Society also promises to be exciting: Is their leader Miguel right? And will Miles have to accept his father's fate? It is possible that two sides will now form in the Spider-Verse: Miles and his friends versus the Spider-Society.
Since "Beyond the Spider-Verse" is the grand finale, we can expect several pivotal moments. The personal stories and relationships are also important to mention here. It is likely that Miles' parents will finally learn about his identity as Spider-Man. We are also excited to see more of Miles and Gwen's relationship: we have already got a first image of the two as well. As you can see, we are in for an action-packed finale! We can hardly wait to finally watch "Beyond the Spider-Verse" on the big screen after all the drama.
Further Spider-Man Projects
"Spider-Man" fans can look forward to a number of other projects in the near future: for example, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", the fourth movie in the Tom Holland series, will be released on July 31, 2026. Particularly interesting for "Spider-Verse" fans is the upcoming Amazon series "Spider-Noir". The lead role in this live-action series is played by Nicolas Cage – he has already provided the character's voice in the animated films. Spider-Man Noir is a private eye who investigates in a gloomy 1930s New York. "Spider-Noir" will be available on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.
