Indiana Jones 5: Digital Rejuvenation of 80-Year-Old Harrison Ford
Next year the film character will say goodbye to the big screen
Ever since 1981, he has been swinging over rocky canyons, running away from giant boulders and always having to deal with the Nazis: We're talking, of course, about Indiana Jones, who has become the world's most famous movie archaeologist in four feature films to date. Soon, the fifth and final film in the series will be released in movie theaters, and one wonders what figure the now 80-year-old Ford will cut in his often physically challenging role. A first public trailer was unfortunately not yet granted to the fan community. This week, however, Empire magazine provided a few exclusive images and further information about the upcoming blockbuster.
The images show Indy and his stepdaughter, Mads Mikkelsen as a Nazi villain, as well as exclusive covers that will grace upcoming issues of Empire. Additionally, there were some exciting details about "Indiana Jones 5". As you can already tell from secret set shots, as well as Mads Mikkelsen's character, Indiana Jones will once again meet some Nazis. However, the film is actually set in 1969 and thus almost 25 years after the Third Reich. Thus, events from 1944 and the late 1960s will be combined, as director James Mangold confirmed to Empire. In addition, many ex-Nazis are involved as scientists in the so-called space race between the Soviet Union and the United States. Among them is Mads Mikkelsen's character Voller, who, for all his enthusiasm for space, has an agenda all his own. For the opening sequence, a kind of flashback to the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" times is planned, for which the main character is digitally rejuvenated.
After last week's rumors, which were denied by director Mangold, that the test screenings had gone very badly, the mood among fans now seems to be more optimistic again. We are excited to see the cast around Harrison Ford as Indy, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena, Mads Mikkelsen as Voller and John Rhys-Davies as Sallah. The trailer will probably be released within the next couple of days or weeks. "Indiana Jones 5" is then scheduled to open in theaters on June 30, 2023.
