"John Wick" Star Could Direct His Own Spin-Off
The martial arts star will take on the leading role
There's an update from the "John Wick" series! It has been known for some time that Donnie Yen's character Caine is to get his own movie. Now the actor has revealed in an interview with Collider that he may be even more involved in the project: there is a high probability that he will direct the spin-off himself.
Yen is currently in talks with those responsible for the film. Chad Stahelski, director of the "John Wick" series, also mentioned the possibility of Donnie Yen as director to the news portal. The action star has already gained experience in this role, albeit only in smaller productions.
The Future of John Wick
Yen's character Caine made his first appearance in the franchise in "John Wick: Chapter 4". The spin-off is now set to follow on from the film. Caine is no longer under the command of the High Table and is now a free agent. However, there is no more information about the plot.
The world of "John Wick" will therefore continue to grow. But before the Caine spin-off is released, there is another film in the action series: "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina" is due to be released in cinemas on June 6, 2025. It stars Ana de Armas in the lead role and Keanu Reeves will also be back! If you're eager for more information, check out our movie preview. Enjoy!
Donnie Yen and his Movies
Donnie Yen is undoubtedly one of the greatest martial arts stars and actors of his generation. With an impressive career spanning several decades, Yen has made a name for himself not only in Asia but also around the world. He is known for his exceptional martial arts skills, charismatic stage presence and ability to fill action-packed roles. Let's take a look at some of his most important films.
"Ip Man"
Probably one of the most famous movies of Donnie Yen's career is "Ip Man", in which he plays the legendary character of the Wing Chun master Ip Man. The film, which is based on the life of the real-life master, highlights his fight against Japanese occupiers during the Second World War. Donnie Yen's powerful portrayal of the calm but unwavering warrior who, despite personal loss, is committed to the welfare of his students and his city, was a real turning point in his career. "Ip Man" not only became an international success, but also helped cement Yen's status as one of the leading figures in the martial arts genre. The film's impressive fight scenes made it a milestone in modern action cinema.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"
Donnie Yen also gained international fame outside the martial arts genre when he took on the role of Chirrut Îmwe in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". He played a blind warrior who believes in the Force but is not a Jedi. His portrayal of Chirrut was both inspiring and emotional. "Rogue One" expanded Yen's reach and showed him to a global audience.
"xXx: Return of Xander Cage"
In "xXx: Return of Xander Cage", Donnie Yen played the villain Xiang, an eccentric and dangerous warrior. The movie is an action-packed blockbuster in which Yen appears alongside Vin Diesel and Deepika Padukone. The role of Xiang gave Yen the opportunity to showcase his martial arts skills on the big international stage and reach a wider global audience. When it comes to the film itself, however, one cannot necessarily speak of a critics' darling.
Donnie Yen has established himself as one of the greatest martial arts actors over the years, building an impressive career that has seen success both in Asia and in international cinema. Yen's exceptional fighting skills have not only earned him fame, but also the respect of fans and colleagues alike.
