Darkwing Duck: New series on Disney+ – First image & synopsis revealed

"Darkwing Duck" is returning – as a new series on Disney+. Reports surfaced five years ago that a reboot of the popular '90s animated series was in the works. Now, the new animated series has been given the green light, as Disney has officially announced.

A release date has not yet been set. However, exciting details and a first image have already been released. Among other things, the plot of the reboot has been revealed. The official synopsis reads as follows:

"For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been trapped in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that's never heard of his superhero exploits. Now a rebellious teen named Duckie who knows all about his heroic past shows up to pull this ego-fueled vigilante back into battle. Together, this unlikely duo will get dangerous to fight old enemies like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana to save the entire universe."

There is also a first look at the new series. An image of the grim-faced superhero Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck, was posted on social media, as you can see in the following post (and at the beginning of our article):

Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen & Co.: The new voice actors for Darkwing Duck

The voice actors for the new animated series have also been revealed. The role of the hero Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck, will be voiced by none other than Mark Hamill. The actor is best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" films. But he has also been involved in numerous productions as a voice actor. Among other roles, he lent his voice to Batman's archenemy: the Joker. Seth Rogen is another star on board who has also appeared in numerous films and series, most recently in the acclaimed comedy series "The Studio." In "Darkwing Duck," he takes on the role of Launchpad McQuack.

In addition to Hamill and Rogen, a number of other voice actors have been announced. The cast includes Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.

In addition to his voice role, Seth Rogen is also on board as a producer alongside Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham. Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui serve as executive producers. Tad Stones, the creator of the original "Darkwing Duck" series, consulted on the development of the new adventures.

Darkwing Duck: A hero of the '90s returns

The original "Darkwing Duck" animated series first aired in 1991 and ran for three seasons with a total of 91 episodes. Many viewers likely still remember the character fondly as a TV hero of their childhood. The Disney character proved to be a humorous alternative to other, more serious superhero stories and, after the animated series ended, also appeared in video games and comics. Among other things, a comic book series titled "The Duck Knight Returns" was published in 2010 by Boom! Studios. The title is an obvious nod to Frank Miller's classic comic "The Dark Knight Returns," which was published in 1986 and is still considered one of the most important Batman stories to this day.

With the Disney+ reboot, fans can now look forward to more adventures featuring Darkwing Duck. It has not yet been announced how many episodes or even seasons are planned. But we're already excited to see what the future holds for this hero.
