A new "Friday" film is coming: as the studio boss of New Line Cinema revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, a new film in the cult series is currently in development. The title is "Last Friday".

Ice Cube will of course be involved again. The rapper also played the lead role alongside Chris Tucker in the first movie from 1995, which was directed by F. Gary Gray, who later achieved greater fame with films such as "The Italian Job", "Law Abiding Citizen" and "The Fate of the Furious". The buddy comedy "Friday" now enjoys cult status and has already spawned two sequels. After "Next Friday" and "Friday After Next", "Last Friday" is now set to be the fourth movie in the series.

The last film to date, "Friday After Next", was released quite a while ago in 2002. More than twenty years later, Ice Cube will once again take on the role of Craig. He will also contribute the screenplay for "Last Friday", which he has already done for all three previous films.

Based on the title, it can be assumed that "Last Friday" is planned as the conclusion of the series. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, New Line boss Richard Brener also revealed that they have only just concluded the deal with Ice Cube. So it will still be a while before the movie is released.

The "Friday" Film Series with Ice Cube

What began as a simple, humorous story about a day in the life of two friends, Craig and Smokey, quickly developed into one of the cult comedies of the 90s. The series, which was co-created by the famous rapper and actor Ice Cube, is now part of pop culture. Let's take a look at the development of the "Friday" movies!

Friday (1995): The First Film

The first installment of the series brought a fresh, unvarnished portrayal of life in Los Angeles to the big screen. Ice Cube plays the role of Craig, a young man who is confronted with all kinds of chaotic and humorous situations on his Friday off with his best friend Smokey (Chris Tucker). Together they experience a day full of misunderstandings, unexpected encounters and crazy events - a humorous look at daily life in an urban neighborhood.

The movie stands out in particular for its portrayal of suburban life, combining humor with social issues. The characters, especially Craig and Smokey, quickly became iconic. "Friday" was a surprise hit and quickly achieved cult status, mainly due to its easy-going humor and realistic yet quirky portrayal of everyday experiences. The film laid the foundations for a series of sequels and remains an important work of urban comedy to this day.

Next Friday (2000): The Adventure Continues

Five years after the first movie, Ice Cube returned with "Next Friday" to continue the story of Craig and his friends. In this sequel, it's Friday again and Craig has to move in with his uncle to escape the problems of his old neighborhood. But here, too, he meets a whole host of bizarre characters and ends up in new chaotic situations.

In addition to Ice Cube, Mike Epps as Day-Day and other familiar faces are also part of the movie. "Next Friday" offers the same mix of humor and social commentary as the first film, but this time it's even crazier and more exaggerated.

Friday After Next (2002): The Last Movie So Far

With "Friday After Next", the series reached its final installment for the time being. In this sequel, we see Craig and Day-Day enter the Christmas season. After being robbed by a burglar, the two want to get the stolen money back. Among other things, they take on a job as security staff in a shopping center and once again experience all kinds of adventures.
