He is hardly recognizable: A first picture of Dwayne Johnson as mixed martial artist Mark Kerr was posted on Instagram. He plays the real-life role model in the drama "The Smashing Machine" from A24.
You can see Mark Kerr, played by Johnson, who has obviously just taken a huge beating. He is in the corner of the ring, surrounded by his trainers and his wife Dawn Staples. However, you really have to take a closer look, more than once, to recognize the Hollywood star under his make-up.
"The Smashing Machine" tells the story of the life of two-time UFC champion Mark Kerr in the 1990s. The biopic is directed by Benny Safdie - best known for "Good Time" and "Uncut Gems" with Adam Sandler. Dwayne Johnson will be joined by Emily Blunt, a key driving force behind the realization of the project.
Currently, the film doesn't have a theatrical release date. It is likely to be released next year, though.
