Good news for "Carrie" fans: The story continues. Season 2 is a done deal! Amazon has officially announced that the horror series will continue on Prime Video. Many are now wondering: When will the second season of "Carrie" premiere? That hasn't been announced yet. What is certain, however, is that Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are back on board. Flanagan will once again serve as showrunner. In the first season, he also directed and wrote several episodes. Together with King – whose 1974 novel the series is based on – he will also serve as executive producer once again.

As part of the announcement, Amazon released a statement from the two creators. In it, King expresses his delight at the series' renewal. The author emphasizes:

"I can't wait for audiences to get to see what's down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It's bound to be thrilling."

Flanagan also took the opportunity to comment on the decision to continue the series. The showrunner explains:

"For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White's story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I'm incredibly grateful for Stephen's trust and support in exploring what comes next."

What is the series Carrie about?

Mike Flanagan's "Carrie" is a reimagining of Stephen King's famous horror novel, which was published about 52 years ago. The series centers on the outcast Carrie White (played by Summer H. Howell). At her high school, she's subjected to a ruthless environment. Carrie must deal with a viral bullying scandal that rocks the community. She's confronted with the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social media age. But that's not all: Carrie develops mysterious telekinetic powers as she enters adolescence.

In addition to lead actress Summer H. Howell, the cast includes Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard. All eight episodes of the first season of "Carrie" have been available on Prime Video since October 7, 2026. As Flanagan recently revealed to Collider, he would like the series to span a total of three seasons. It remains to be seen whether there will be a third season of "Carrie." However, with the announcement of the second season, he's already come a good deal closer to his goal.

A horror expert at work

Showrunner Mike Flanagan is well-versed in the horror genre. In addition to "Carrie," he has previously enriched the TV world with several horror series, including "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Midnight Mass." He has also demonstrated his knack for the eerie on the big screen. In recent years, he has made a name for himself as a writer and director with projects such as his Stephen King adaptation "Doctor Sleep."

Next year, he'll bring a new "Exorcist" film starring Scarlett Johansson to the big screen. He's also one of the screenwriters for the upcoming DC horror film "Clayface."
