This reunion should get the fans' hearts leaping for joy: After Jensen Ackles was able to establish himself as Soldier Boy in the universe of "The Boys", two more "Supernatural" stars are now joining the cast of the fifth season.

The talk is of Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Padalecki himself confirmed that he would be part of "The Boys" last year. But the final confirmation has now been provided by an Instagram video, which has been met with pure excitement by fans. In it, we first see Jensen Ackles addressing his former series brother directly:

Quote: "We got work to do."

Padalecki reacts with approval - but then comes the big surprise: Misha Collins is also part of the action!

It is still unknown which characters the two will play. "The Boys" series creator Eric Kripke announced last year that the series would end after the fifth season. At the same time, however, he is looking forward to bringing the story of the superheroes to a bloody, epic and wet conclusion. So it sounds like they want to go one better towards the end.

It is not yet clear when exactly the grand finale of the successful series will have its premiere. As things stand, filming will continue until this summer. A release of "The Boys" season 5 in 2026 is therefore very likely.

The Boys and Gen V

Since the premiere of the main series in 2019, "The Boys" franchise has developed into one of the most successful and provocative superhero universes. With "Gen V", a spin-off came out in 2023 that expands the universe and sheds light on new aspects of the dark world of Vought International.

The Boys: Superheroes Without Limits

The main series "The Boys", based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, offers a brutal, cynical and humorous take on the superhero genre. In this world, superheroes - called "Supes" - are marketed by the unscrupulous company Vought International and are anything but moral role models. Many of them abuse their powers for personal gain while being celebrated as heroes in the public eye.

The focus is on the eponymous group "The Boys", led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), who have made it their mission to uncover the truth about the corrupt superheroes. The main antagonist is Homelander (Antony Starr), who appears as the seemingly perfect leader of the "Seven", but is in fact a psychopathic narcissist. The series deals with themes such as abuse of power, corruption and media manipulation and uses brutal action and black humor to show a more realistic depiction of a superhero universe. And when it comes to violence, the series also has a lot to offer.

Gen V: Superheroes in Training

"Gen V", the first live-action spin-off of "The Boys", was released in 2023 and is set at Godolkin University, an elite university for young superheroes run by Vought. There, students are prepared for careers as heroes or members of the Seven. However, as in the main series, power and fame are linked to dark scheming.

The focus is on Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), a young Supe with blood-manipulating abilities who tries to hold her own in the brutal world of superheroes. Alongside her, there are a number of other characters with individual abilities and problems who show that the next generation of heroes is by no means morally flawless. "Gen V" combines coming-of-age elements with the merciless social criticism of "The Boys" and expands the universe with new characters and conflicts.

Conclusion

Both "The Boys" and "Gen V" offer an unadorned, satirical portrayal of the superhero genre. While "The Boys" shows the fight against corrupt supes, "Gen V" provides a look at the training and manipulation of the next generation. Both series complement each other perfectly and make the franchise one of the most exciting in the current series universe.
