The Batman spin-off: series about Arkham Asylum and Penguin is planned

According to Matt Reeves, the Arkham series will be as scary as a horror movie

The new "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson is getting mostly positive reviews these days and is already a complete success. In addition to the rumors about a planned trilogy with Pattinson, there is now also official information about other projects from the same universe. It had been known for a while that "The Batman" would be the start of a new universe of its own, consisting not only of movies but also of series.

One of them was the series titled "Gotham Central", which was supposed to take place in Bruce Wayne's first year as Batman and thus a bit before the events of "The Batman". The focus would have been a police officer of the Gotham City Police Department, but as Matt Reeves recently announced in a conversation with "The Cyber Nerds", the direction of the series is probably changing fundamentally. The project he has planned will now focus on the infamous Arkham Asylum. The series is supposed to resemble a horror movie and offer a fresh perspective on the characters incarcerated there, which traditionally consist of villains like the Riddler, Joker, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and co. In addition, the Asylum is one of the favorite places of Batman fans, whether in one of the numerous video games or in various movies and series. Nothing is known yet about the exact plot, but it could of course be that we'll be dealing with an escape attempt from the Asylum.

A second DCEU series is also in the works. This project will also feature a villain, none other than Penguin. After the events of "The Batman", the mobster, who is superbly portrayed by Colin Farrell, sees his chance has come to grab for supremacy in Gotham City. In addition to some flashbacks, the main focus will be on how the unscrupulous gangster develops into the boss of bosses. Again, "The Batman" director Matt Reeves has his eye on the production, but "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." writer Lauren LeFranc is responsible as showrunner.

We are definitely looking forward to both series and new news from "The Batman" universe. Unfortunately, there is no start date for either project yet. It is only known that the Penguin series will be filmed in the near future.
