New lead role for Tom Holland: Following the massive success of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," the actor will star in the thriller "Penthouse." The idea for the film comes from "Iron Man 3" writer Drew Pearce, who will also write the screenplay, according to Deadline.

Not much information about "Penthouse" has been revealed so far. Aside from the fact that it is supposed to be a thriller, nothing is known about the story. The plot is being kept under wraps at this time. A director or additional cast members have not yet been confirmed either. What is already known: Tom Holland and Drew Pearce will produce the film alongside Harry Holland and Will South. Ian Fisher will serve as an executive producer. A release date for "Penthouse" has not yet been announced.

Huge success with Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Following Tom Holland's box office successes this year, expectations for his new film "Penthouse" are likely to be quite high. After all, as the lead actor in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," he delivered the most successful film of the year. What's more, the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster became the third-highest-grossing film of all time with worldwide box office receipts of $2.5 billion. Only James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi hit "Avatar" (No. 2 with $2.92 billion) and the 2019 Marvel adventure "Avengers: Endgame" from 2019 (No. 1 with $2.94 billion) rank ahead of the Spider-Man movie. "Avengers: Endgame" had only recently replaced "Avatar" at the top of the list. The reason: The Marvel film was re-released in theaters – including additional scenes that set the stage for the upcoming Marvel blockbuster "Avengers: Doomsday," as KinoCheck reported.

As the title suggests, "Brand New Day" marks the beginning of a completely new chapter in Peter Parker's life. After all, the people around him have forgotten that he even exists – even those closest to his heart. Aside from its impressive box office success, how was the film received by critics? The Odyssey was also a hit

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" wasn't the only movie with which Tom Holland scored a box office hit this year. In Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," he plays the son of the protagonist Odysseus and is thus part of an ensemble featuring an extremely star-studded cast. Alongside Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, the film adaptation of the 3,000-year-old epic features stars such as Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, and Elliot Page. The film grossed $1.7 billion at the global box office. This makes "The Odyssey" the second-highest-grossing film of the year, behind "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". As far as his choice of roles goes, things could hardly have gone better for Tom Holland in 2026.

Currently, "Penthouse" isn't the only movie Holland has in the works. It was announced about five years ago that he would portray the famous dancer and actor Fred Astaire in a biopic. The project is now increasingly taking shape. It was recently announced that Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter will also be on board. It will be interesting to see whether Holland can build on this year's massive successes with his new films.
