Leading Actor Found for the Snoop Dogg Biopic
The film will be directed by Craig Brewer
Biopics of iconic musicians and bands have become increasingly popular in recent years. After movies such as "Straight Outta Compton" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", a movie about rap icon Snoop Dogg will now be made. Industry portal Deadline reports that a director as well as a lead actor have been found for the project.
Jonathan Daviss as Snoop Dogg
Jonathan Daviss has been cast in the role of Snoop Dogg. The actor is best known for the Netflix series "Outer Banks", where he has been part of the main cast across all seasons to date.
Craig Brewer is set to direct the film. Brewer most recently directed the Eddie Murphy films "Coming 2 America" and "Dolemite Is My Name". The director already has experience in the realization of hip-hop material: He directed several episodes of the US series "Empire" as well as the movie "Hustle & Flow", for example.
Snoop Dogg as a Producer
Snoop Dogg himself will be involved as a producer. The musician is one of the most influential and enduring artists in hip-hop history. Over the years, Snoop Dogg has earned himself a high status in pop culture. The movie is set to focus on his career and his personal life and family
The production studio Universal is behind the project. In the hip hop genre, Universal has already been involved in movies such as "8 Mile" and "Straight Outta Compton". Given that the project is still in the early stages of production, it remains unclear when the Snoop Dogg biopic will be released.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg was born under his real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California. In the 90s, he became one of the defining faces of the American rap scene. He started his career under the name Snoop Doggy Dogg. At the beginning of the 90s, he worked with Dr. Dre before his breakthrough followed with his first solo album "Doggystyle". Over the course of his career, Snoop has released numerous studio albums and collaborated with several artists from different genres.
Snoop Dogg is not only a musician, but also an actor, entrepreneur and cultural icon. He has appeared in many films and series, such as the Denzel Washington cult film "Training Day". He has also repeatedly tried his hand as a commentator at sporting events.
What makes Snoop Dogg so unique is not only his music, but also his authenticity. He has remained true to himself for over three decades and yet has never lost touch with new generations. He has become a symbol of a lifestyle that combines relaxation, creativity and individuality. His distinctive voice, casual flow and charismatic appearance have made him a cult figure – not only in the music scene, but far beyond.
So it will be interesting to see what the movie version of Snoop Dogg's life story will look like. It is possible that it will be similar to "8 Mile" or "Straight Outta Compton". After all, the two films are probably among the best-known and most popular films about the hip-hop scene. Producer Brian Grazer, who also worked on "8 Mile", is behind the Snoop Dogg film as well.
8 Mile
"8 Mile" is a music film loosely based on the life of rapper Eminem. The movie is set in the rough and tumble Detroit of the 90s. The lead role of Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith Jr. is played by Eminem himself. He is a talented up-and-coming rapper with no prospects who has to struggle with the everyday hardships of an environment characterized by poverty, racism and social tensions. The movie shows his inner and outer struggle for recognition in a scene characterized by prejudice and rivalry.
Director Curtis Hanson succeeds in creating a haunting portrait of the will to survive and the power of music through authentic staging and a strong soundtrack (including Eminem's hit "Lose Yourself"). "8 Mile" is not just a music film, but also a drama about identity, self-doubt and the struggle to find one's place in the world.
Straight Outta Compton
"Straight Outta Compton" tells the explosive story of how the legendary hip-hop group N.W.A. came to be. The group revolutionized the hip-hop world in the late 80s with their relentless music and uncompromising attitude. The movie focuses on the young musicians Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella, who come from the district of Compton in Los Angeles. The film, produced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre himself, among others, impresses with its energetic staging and rousing soundtrack.
