Start of Filming for "Blade Runner 2099" Announced
Ridley Scott will be involved as a producer
With "Blade Runner 2099", another sequel from the world of Ridley Scott's science fiction epic awaits us – this time in the form of a series. It has now been announced when filming will begin on the project starring Michelle Yeoh.
According to Collider, the time has been set for June of this year. Prague as well as Spain have been confirmed as filming locations, with production expected to continue until December. The series was originally due to be filmed in Belfast last summer. However, the Hollywood strikes that took place at the time led to a production halt that lasted until this past April.
The plot of "Blade Runner 2099" is currently being kept under wraps. However, the title already reveals that the series is set 50 years after the events of "Blade Runner 2049". The story could once again focus on the coexistence of humans and replicants, coupled with plenty of philosophical and ethical questions. These have also characterized the previous films.
Jonathan van Tulleken, who was most recently involved in the Disney+ series "Shōgun", will be responsible for directing the first two episodes. Legendary director Ridley Scott will work as a producer together with author Michael Green. The lead role will be played by Michelle Yeoh, who won an Oscar for her performance in the crazy multiverse adventure "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Since then, the experienced actress has appeared more and more frequently in Hollywood productions. "Blade Runner 2099" could possibly be released on Amazon Prime Video as early as next year.
