Jessica Biel: Her Most Famous Roles

Jessica Biel is one of those actresses who made the leap from TV series to Hollywood at a young age. Over the course of her career, she has appeared in a wide variety of genres – from horror films to action and thrillers to romantic comedies. Some of her roles are particularly closely associated with her name.

7th Heaven

For many viewers, Jessica Biel is likely best known for the series "7th Heaven". From 1996 to 2006, she played Mary Camden and was thus a part of the main cast of the popular family series for many years. The role brought Biel to the attention of a wider audience while she was still a teenager. At the same time, "7th Heaven" served as the springboard for her later film career. However, even while she was on the show, Biel increasingly chose to devote herself to other projects as well.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Jessica Biel underwent a significant image change with the 2003 horror film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". In it, she took on the lead role of Erin and had to face off against, among others, the infamous Leatherface. The film was a huge box office success and finally established Biel as a major name in cinema. For horror fans in particular, her performance remains one of her most iconic roles to this day.

Blade: Trinity

Shortly thereafter, in 2004, Biel appeared in the third installment of the "Blade" series. In "Blade: Trinity", she played Abigail Whistler, a vampire hunter who fights supernatural enemies alongside Wesley Snipes' Blade. The role showcased a much more action-packed side of Biel. Instead of her typical roles in teen or family TV series, this time the focus was on physical action.

The Illusionist

In 2006, she took on a very different project with "The Illusionist". In this mystery drama, Biel played Sophie von Teschen and shared the screen with Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti, among others. The film combined a romantic story with elements of mystery and was set in Vienna in the early 20th century. With this role, Biel was able to demonstrate that she was not limited to horror and action films.

Next

A year later, Biel joined Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore in the cast of the science-fiction thriller "Next". She played Liz Cooper, who, along with Cage's character Chris Johnson, becomes entangled in a dangerous conspiracy. Even though the film wasn't particularly well-received by critics, it's one of the better-known Hollywood productions from Biel's career.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

Biel showcased her comedic side in 2007's "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry". Alongside Adam Sandler and Kevin James, she played the lawyer Alex McDonough. The comedy gave Biel another opportunity to break away from her previous roles and appear in a much lighter genre.

Valentine's Day

In 2010, Biel was part of the large ensemble cast of "Valentine's Day". The romantic comedy, directed by Garry Marshall, brought together numerous well-known stars, including Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, and Anne Hathaway. Biel played Kara Monahan, a successful PR consultant who doesn't really care for Valentine's Day. The film featured several interconnected storylines, offering Biel yet another romantic role.

Total Recall

Another major Hollywood production followed in 2012. In "Total Recall", Biel played Melina, who, along with Colin Farrell's character Douglas Quaid, becomes entangled in a dangerous conspiracy. The remake of Paul Verhoeven's science-fiction classic of the same name once again gave Biel the opportunity to take on a more physical and action-packed role.

The Sinner

Jessica Biel ultimately took on one of her most significant roles in television. In the mystery crime series "The Sinner" in 2017, she played the young mother Cora Tannetti. At the beginning of the series, Cora commits a brutal murder for no apparent reason. Detective Harry Ambrose then sets out to uncover the circumstances behind the crime. Biel was not only the lead actress but also served as an executive producer. Her performance earned her an Emmy nomination, among other accolades, and demonstrated that Biel can also shine in significantly more complex and dark roles.

Candy

Biel took on another challenging role in 2022 in the miniseries "Candy". In it, she played Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife whose life is completely thrown into disarray after a shocking murder. The story is based on a real-life case from 1980. In addition to playing the lead role, Biel also served as a producer and once again received widespread attention for her performance.
