Don't Breathe 3 Officially in the Works – Stephen Lang Returns

"Don't Breathe 3" is officially in the works! During a Q&A session marking the 10th anniversary of the first film at Beyond Fest in Santa Monica, Fede Álvarez confirmed Part 3, according to a report by Dread Central. Lead actor Stephen Lang is also set to return in his role as the blind war veteran Norman Nordstrom.
Alongside Lang, Jane Levy will also be back, having played the burglar Rocky in "Don't Breathe". According to Álvarez, the script is already complete. However, the director kept specific details about the plot or a potential start date for the sequel to himself.
Here's what the Don't Breathe movies are about
The first film centers on Rocky, Alex, and Money, who make a living by breaking into homes. For what they believe will be their last big heist, they target the home of a blind war veteran. They assume that, due to his disability, the man will be an easy target.
But shortly after breaking in, it becomes clear that they have completely underestimated their opponent. Norman Nordstrom knows his house inside and out and possesses abilities the three burglars didn't anticipate. When he realizes there are strangers in his home, a merciless fight for survival begins.
Much of the action takes place inside the house. Dark rooms, narrow hallways, and the constant danger of being discovered create a suffocating atmosphere. At the same time, Álvarez flips the classic role reversal: the characters who initially appear to be the threat become the hunted themselves. "Don't Breathe" also proved to be a box office success. With a comparatively modest budget of just $9 million, the film grossed approximately $157 million worldwide.
Don't Breathe 2: From Hunter to Protector
In 2021, Stephen Lang returned as Norman Nordstrom. "Don't Breathe 2" picks up several years after the events of the first film and tells a new story centered on the blind veteran. Norman now lives a secluded life, caring for a young girl named Phoenix. The two lead a secluded life until a group of armed men breaks into their home and kidnaps Phoenix. Norman then sets out to find her.
This also shifts the perspective on the main character. While Norman himself was portrayed as an unpredictable threat in the first film, this time he is depicted more as a protector. Nevertheless, the sequel remains true to its gritty and at times brutal style. Fede Álvarez was once again involved in the screenplay and collaborated with Rodo Sayagues. This time, however, Sayagues took on the role of director himself.
Financially, "Don't Breathe 2" failed to match the success of the first film. Worldwide, the sequel grossed approximately $53 million. However, the film was released in August 2021 at a time when the movie industry was still suffering significantly from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
