The series is to become part of Universal's own Monsterverse

Eerily beautiful news: Horror icon James Wan is bringing the next horror family back to life with a reboot of "The Munsters" - albeit in a different way than expected.

As Deadline reports, the series called "1313" - a reference to the Munster family's home - is set to take a much darker direction and thus differ from the classic TV series from the 1960s. Industry insiders are even talking about a "way more grim" version. The involvement of James Wan also suggests that we are not dealing with shallow horror fun in the style of "Wednesday".

James Wan will develop the series together with his wife Ingrid Bisu, who previously worked on the script for "Malignant". Lindsey Anderson Beer, known for the Stephen King prequel "Pet Sematary: Bloodlines", will work as a showrunner.

The reboot of "The Munsters" will not only be an independent series, but will also be part of Universal's own Monsterverse, also known as the Dark Universe. This also includes "The Bride!", directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, which is due to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025. However, there is no release date for "1313" yet.
