One of Netflix's most successful series is coming to an end: Season 4 of "The Night Agent" will be the final season of the action thriller. The streaming service has now officially announced this. At the same time, Netflix provided an update on the current status of Season 4. Which new actors have joined the cast? And when can we expect the final season?

The news about the end of Gabriel Basso's Peter Sutherland's journey comes a good two and a half months after the release of the third season. The first season of the spy series, in particular, proved to be a huge success in 2023. However, viewership numbers also declined with seasons 2 and 3. Important for fans: Since the series finale is a done deal, creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan has planning certainty early on. Ryan has reportedly been preparing for the series finale for a long time and wants to give Peter Sutherland a fitting send-off.

"Ever since the initial success of 'The Night Agent', I've been obsessed with eventually delivering a proper and thrilling conclusion to the show and to Peter Sutherland's journey."

The Cast of Season 4

Several new cast members have already been confirmed for the fourth season. Among them is "Bosch" star Titus Welliver. According to Deadline, he plays a prosecutor for the Department of Justice. Also joining the cast is Elizabeth Lail, who previously starred in "You", another Netflix hit. Lail is set to appear as Peter's ex-fiancée. Also joining the cast are Li Jun Li ("Sinners") and Trevante Rhodes ("Moonlight"). Rhodes is expected to portray Peter's new partner.

When will The Night Agent Season 4 be released?

Filming for the fourth season is already in full swing and is currently taking place in Los Angeles. Netflix has not yet confirmed a specific release date. However, only a little over a year passed between the releases of Seasons 2 and 3 – and the fact that filming is already underway is a good sign. So we can hope that "The Night Agent" Season 4 will be released on Netflix around spring 2027.

Similar shows to The Night Agent

You can, of course, still stream the first three seasons of "The Night Agent" on Netflix. If you're looking for similar series, we've put together a few recommendations for you here.

Homeland

For viewers more interested in the psychological aspects of espionage, "Homeland" is an excellent choice. The series delves deep into the world of intelligence agencies and explores not only geopolitical conflicts but also the internal struggles of its characters. Moral gray areas, complex characters, and a multi-layered plot ensure that the tension isn't driven solely by action.

Bodyguard

A particularly fitting recommendation is "Bodyguard." This British production combines political crises with personal drama and follows a war veteran who works as a bodyguard for a high-ranking politician. It quickly becomes clear that the threat goes far beyond individual attacks. The series captivates with its intense atmosphere, surprising twists, and steadily rising tension, which should immediately appeal to fans of "The Night Agent."

Designated Survivor

"Designated Survivor" also offers plenty of thrills. Here, the focus is on a rather unassuming politician who suddenly becomes President of the United States following a devastating attack. While trying to stabilize the country, he must simultaneously uncover a large-scale conspiracy. The series combines political decision-making with thriller elements and shows how quickly the life of an "ordinary" man can change completely.

24

If you prefer something even more intense and action-packed, you should check out "24." The series is considered a milestone in the genre and unfolds its plot in real time, creating a particularly immediate sense of suspense. Each season revolves around an imminent threat that must be prevented within 24 hours. The fast pace, constant twists, and uncompromising storytelling make "24" a perfect choice for anyone seeking an adrenaline rush.

The Recruit

"The Recruit" presents itself as a bit more modern and with a fresh tone. The focus is on a young CIA lawyer who is unexpectedly drawn into international conflicts. Similar to "The Night Agent," it centers on a protagonist who isn't really cut out for such extreme situations—yet must still hold his own. The series combines humor with suspense, offering a slightly lighter yet still gripping take on the genre.

These series impressively demonstrate just how diverse political and espionage thrillers can be in the TV series format. Whether it's hard-hitting action, complex intrigues, or in-depth character studies—anyone who enjoyed "The Night Agent" is very likely to find something to their liking here.
