Conjuring: First Communion – The New Warrens Have Been Revealed for the Horror Prequel
The Two Lead Stars Have Been Cast – And the Director and Screenwriters Are Already Set
The Conjuring franchise is far from over. It has been known for some time that the hit horror series is getting a prequel titled "Conjuring: First Communion." According to multiple media reports, the new lead duo to portray the young Warrens has now been cast.
As is well known, Ed and Lorraine Warren were played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the films of the main series. Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix are now set to follow in their footsteps. Both actors were born in 2001, giving fans a rough idea of how far back in time the prequel will go.
Garrett Wareing & Amanda Fix
Wareing is part of the cast of the Netflix series "Ransom Canyon" and has also appeared in the mystery series "Manifest." Most recently, he also took on a role in the Stephen King adaptation "The Long Walk." His new co-star, Amanda Fix, was part of the cast of the "Orphan Black" spin-off "Orphan Black: Echoes." She will soon be seen alongside Gillian Anderson in the critically acclaimed film "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma."
What is known about the "Conjuring" prequel?
Plot details for "First Communion" have not yet been revealed. It has already been confirmed that the prequel will be directed by Rodrigue Huart. The director has primarily made horror short films to date. Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, on the other hand, are responsible for the screenplay. The duo has already written several films in the "Conjuring" franchise, including the most recent installment, "The Conjuring 4: Last Rites." The release date for "First Communion" has already been announced: The prequel is set to hit theaters on September 10, 2027.
The Conjuring Universe: One of the Most Successful Horror Franchises of All Time
With the first "The Conjuring" (2013), director James Wan laid the foundation for one of the most successful horror franchises in film history. The series centers on paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, whose cases are loosely based on reports from the real-life couple. The series is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who have consistently expanded the franchise over the years into a cohesive horror universe.
The so-called "Conjuring Universe" now comprises a total of ten films. In addition to the main series centered on the Warrens, several spin-offs have been created that focus on individual demons or cursed objects from the films.

The Main Series
It all began with "The Conjuring", in which Ed and Lorraine Warren help a family haunted by a malevolent presence. Three years later came "The Conjuring 2" (2016), which revisits the famous Enfield case and introduces one of the franchise's most iconic characters: the demonic nun Valak. The next film in the main series is "The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It" (2021), which is more heavily based on a true crime case. It wasn't until 2025 that the story continued with "The Conjuring 4: Last Rites," which also marks the current conclusion of the Warren saga.
The Spin-offs
At the same time, "Annabelle" developed into its own film series. "Annabelle" (2014) tells the origin story of the demonic doll, while "Annabelle 2" (2017) goes even further back in time to depict her actual creation. With "Annabelle 3" (2019), the plot finally returns to the Warrens' home, where the doll once again wreaks havoc.
The character of the demonic nun also got her own series. "The Nun" (2018) takes us to a Romanian monastery and tells the backstory of Valak, while "The Nun II" (2023) continues the story several years later and further expands the connection to the main series.
"The Curse of La Llorona" (2019) occupies a special place. The film draws on a Latin American legend and was not originally marketed as part of the "Conjuring" universe. But there is a small connection: Father Perez from "Annabelle" also appears in "The Curse of La Llorona." By the way: A new film is in development here as well. "The Revenge of La Llorona" will be released in theaters on February 26, 2027.
More Than Just a Horror Franchise
The "Conjuring" universe has played a key role in establishing the concept of a interconnected film universe within the horror genre as well. While series such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe had previously been the main drivers of interconnected stories, Warner Bros. proved that this principle can also work with horror films.
