Game of Thrones Movie in the Works
The story could revolve around the remaining members of the Stark family
News from Westeros: After eight seasons of the main series and two seasons of the prequel "House of the Dragon", George R.R. Martin 's popular fantasy world is to be expanded once again: A "Game of Thrones" movie is in the making!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the currently untitled project is still in the early stages of development – so there are still no details about the cast or the story. There are many possibilities: The surviving members of the Stark family could be the focus of the plot, for example. After all, Jon Snow was meant to get his own series dealing with his adventures north of the Wall. Or the story could be dedicated to Arya, who wanted to discover the unexplored territories west of Westeros at the end of the series.
The fact that Warner is also considering movies alongside all the series shows a bit of rethinking. Instead of limiting the "Game of Thrones" universe exclusively to HBO, a movie adaptation could attract new fans who have had little to do with the franchise so far. However, that doesn't mean we have to do entirely without any new series. After all, the next big "Game of Thrones" spin-off is coming next year with "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms".
All Game of Thrones series at a glance: From Westeros to the new spin-offs
The "Game of Thrones" universe has expanded and developed since the huge success of the main series. HBO, the original network of the series, has used its popularity to expand George R.R. Martin's universe and bring new stories to the screen. Here is an overview of the main series and the spin-offs to date and planned.
1. Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
With eight seasons and 73 episodes, "Game of Thrones" changed television forever. The series, based on George R.R. Martin's book series The Song of Ice and Fire, set standards for quality, character depth and suspense in the fantasy world. It tells the complex story of Westeros and the seven kingdoms, in which houses fight for power and rule. While House Stark and House Lannister are among the central parties to the conflict, dragons, White Walkers and the legendary Iron Throne also come into play. The mixture of intrigue, battles and power games made "Game of Thrones" a global phenomenon.
2. House of the Dragon (2022-present)
After the end of the main series, "House of the Dragon" became the first prequel to be realized by HBO. The series is based on the book Fire and Blood by Martin and tells the story of House Targaryen around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It centers on the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of Dragons, which splits the dynasty and plunges the realm into chaos. The series offers a dark and complex story of dragons, political intrigue and scheming. Featuring familiar characters such as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and King Viserys I Targaryen, the series gives a deeper insight into the origins of the family that once ruled Westeros. "House of the Dragon" was a huge success and has already been renewed for several seasons.
3. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight (2025)
Another spin-off that fans are eagerly awaiting is "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight". This series is based on Martin's novella collection The Hedge Knight of Westeros, which is set around 90 years before the events of "Game of Thrones". It follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Great, a simple knight, and his squire Egg, who will later rule over Westeros as King Aegon V Targaryen. The series promises a mixture of adventure and humor and shows the less glamorous side of knightly life in the "Game of Thrones" universe. The duo of Dunk and Egg have a cult following among fans, and the series is set to bring some of Martin's favorite stories to life.
4. Further spin-off ideas and projects
Since the success of "Game of Thrones", several spin-off ideas have been in the pipeline, but some of them have already been scrapped. Among other things, there were ideas for a series about the origins of the White Walkers, known as "The Long Night" or "Bloodmoon". This series was to be set thousands of years before the main events and show the origins of Westeros. Although a pilot was filmed, HBO ultimately decided not to go ahead with it. Other projects, including a spin-off about Nymeria and the Rhoynar or a series dealing with Robert's Rebellion, are also on the list of possible productions. So far, however, there are no concrete details, and these spin-offs remain just rumors for now.
