The famous paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant receives an invitation from the rich couple Paul and Amanda Kirby. They want Grant to accompany them on a sightseeing flight over the island of Isla Sorna, which was originally used as a breeding island for dinosaurs. Grant agrees with a heavy heart, as he is promised a huge amount of money for his research. On the island, the plane suddenly comes in for a landing. It turns out that Eric, the son of the couple, is missing on the island.
