He was one of the most enigmatic figures in the German entertainment industry: the magician and film producer Helmut Schreiber, alias Kalanag. He began his career as a producer of anti-Semitic films and Hitler's "court magician". After the war, he managed a new start as Kalanag with a gigantic exotic magic show. He went on tour worldwide and became a kind of David Copperfield of the 1950s. He left a lasting mark on magicians like Siegfried and Roy and is still revered as an idol by parts of the magic scene.
