The release date for the Snoop Dogg biopic "Snoop" has finally been set! As reported by Deadline magazine, Universal Pictures will release the film in theaters on August 6, 2027.

Agents, executives, producers, publicists, and journalists were consulted to compile the list of the most powerful directors. The evaluation criteria include body of work, commercial bankability, creative control, reputation, and future potential. The list focuses on Hollywood filmmakers. Additionally, directors who primarily work in the world of television are not included.

It's not all that surprising that Nolan has secured the top spot on such a list. The director has been a sure bet at the box office for years and consistently delights both audiences and critics alike. The same is true of his latest film: With "The Odyssey", the director delivered the most successful release of his career. The highly acclaimed film adaptation of Homer's 3,000-year-old epic grossed $264.1 million worldwide on its opening weekend.

Nolan instead of a franchise

Hardly any other director has a name as magnetic as Nolan's. With him, virtually any subject matter currently becomes a celebrated blockbuster – whether the focus is on an ancient hero like Odysseus, a superhero like Batman, or a physicist like Oppenheimer. This likely has something to do with the fact that audiences tend not to go to the movies to see the latest Oppenheimer film, but rather the latest Nolan film. To put it bluntly, one could say that Nolan has become the equivalent of a franchise.

Another director about whom one could say the same is Quentin Tarantino. He was most recently on the big screen with "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and also made it into Vulture's ranking. However, he "only" came in at No. 5, which – despite his star power – is likely due in part to the fact that the film was released seven years ago. Second place, meanwhile, goes to Ryan Coogler, who caused a sensation at this year's Oscars with "Sinners." The vampire film made history with 16 nominations – no other film had ever been in the running for so many Academy Awards. In the end, it won four Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan. In third place is Denis Villeneuve, who most recently impressed audiences with his visually stunning "Dune" adaptations.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig in the Top 10

The first female director in the ranking is in fourth place: Greta Gerwig. Three years ago, the filmmaker scored a massive box-office hit with her "Barbie" adaptation, which sparked a lot of conversation. Overall, only a few other female directors appear on the Top 100 list. The first images feature the two lead actresses, Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. Yeoh plays a replicant named Olwen.

"She is hunting down a group of missing rogue replicants. She's in the final days of her life, so she knows she has only days left to live because replicants know down to the day when they're gonna die."

Hunter Schafer plays her partner, Cora, who, unlike Olwen, is human. She has long been on the run from replicants and is now posing as a replicant herself. The Background and Central Theme

"Blade Runner 2099" is intended to draw not only on the two previous films but also on Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Luisa describes the series' central theme as follows:

"The show is really imagining what comes after us, and what does it mean to be human in a world where humanity is no longer relevant?"

The creators also aim to make good use of the series format. After all, compared to a movie, there's more time to tell the story. "Blade Runner 2099" will use this time to delve deeper into the world-building, mythology, and history of the "Blade Runner" universe.

The Blade Runner Movies

Ridley Scott laid the foundation for this universe back in 1982 with his cult classic "Blade Runner." The neo-noir sci-fi classic tells the story of Blade Runner Rick Deckard, who is tasked with tracking down and "retiring" rogue replicants in a futuristic Los Angeles. At the same time, the film poses fundamental questions about identity, memory, and the meaning of being human.

Thirty-five years later, Denis Villeneuve continued the story with "Blade Runner 2049." The film centers on Blade Runner K, whose investigations lead him on the trail of a secret that could shake the existing world order to its core. Both "2049" screenwriter Michael Green and Ridley Scott himself were involved in the development process of "Blade Runner 2099." Both are on board as producers for "2099." Luisa explains:

"It was really important for Ridley to be a part of the development process. Because both visually and in terms of story, there are mythological canon points in his film that we're touching, and it was really important to both get his blessing and have his insight into what his original intentions were."

When will Blade Runner 2099 be released?

A 2027 release was previously mentioned, but the series will now premiere sooner than expected. "Blade Runner 2099" is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2026. A specific release date has not yet been announced.

Netflix has finally started filming "Extraction 3"! Lead actor Chris Hemsworth himself announced the official start of production. On his Instagram account, the actor posted a photo showing him on set with Idris Elba and director Sam Hargrave. He captioned it simply: "E3, here we go!"

In addition to Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba, Golshifteh Farahani is also returning in her role as Nik Khan. While Netflix is keeping official plot details under wraps for now, the story is said to pick up directly where "Extraction 2" left off.

In that film, Idris Elba's character made an unusual offer to Tyler Rake and his team: freedom in exchange for carrying out dangerous missions. Extraction 1 & 2 Recap: Here's What's Happened So Far (Spoilers)

Spoiler alert! The following recap contains key plot points and the ending of "Extraction" (2020) and "Extraction 2" (2023). With "Extraction" in 2020, Netflix laid the foundation for one of the streaming service's most successful action series. Directed by former stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave and produced by the Russo brothers, the film stood out above all for its no-holds-barred action, spectacular long takes, and a charismatic Chris Hemsworth in the lead role. Three years later, "Extraction 2" continued the story and took the action to an even higher level. But what were the two films actually about?

Extraction (2020): A Rescue Mission Turns into a Fight for Survival

The first film centers on Tyler Rake, a former Australian SASR soldier and elite mercenary who, following the tragic death of his son, leads a life without any real prospects. When he's assigned the task of rescuing Ovi Mahajan – the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord – from a rival crime syndicate in Bangladesh, it initially seems like just another routine mission.

Although the rescue is initially successful, the situation escalates shortly thereafter. The client withdraws his support due to a lack of funds, leaving Tyler and Ovi suddenly on their own. As Tyler and Ovi grow closer and closer, a father-son dynamic develops between them. Tyler sees in the boy memories of his late son and is ultimately willing to sacrifice his own life to save him. In the finale, Tyler is seriously wounded and, after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, falls from a bridge into the river. Ovi manages to escape and eventually reaches his family safely. The ending initially left it open as to whether Tyler survived the fall. However, a brief scene at the very end hinted that he might still be alive.

Extraction 2 (2023): The Return of Tyler Rake

The second installment answers fans' most pressing question within the first few minutes: Tyler did indeed survive the fall. After a long recovery, he is contacted by a mysterious man – played by Idris Elba – who offers him a new mission. Tyler is tasked with rescuing his former sister-in-law, Ketevan, and her children from a heavily guarded Georgian prison. They are being held there alongside the head of a brutal criminal syndicate. What begins as a covert rescue mission quickly escalates into a relentless chase.

"Extraction 2" surpasses its predecessor, particularly in its action sequences. At the heart of the film is a roughly 21-minute single-take sequence that weaves together prison fights, an escape on a moving train, and a spectacular helicopter assault. The elaborate production was praised by critics and fans alike. As the story unfolds, Tyler and his team find themselves targeted by Zurab, the brother of the slain gangster boss. Zurab is out for revenge and stops at nothing to take Tyler down. Several brutal confrontations ensue, culminating in a final showdown in which Tyler defeats Zurab.

Good news for all Sacha Baron Cohen fans: A new Ali G movie titled "Ali G: Who Iz I?" is on the way – and a release date has finally been revealed. Via Instagram, Cohen, as Ali G, announced that the new movie will hit theaters on October 23, 2026. The announcement came as a complete surprise to many fans, as the project was developed entirely in secret. In addition, Cohen is making his feature film directorial debut.

The fact that the film was able to be made without any prior reports is no coincidence. Cohen once again relied on the same secrecy that characterized his "Borat" films. And that last sentence pretty much says it all. By the time the movie hits theaters at the latest, the world will finally find out who Sadie Sink will be playing in the new Spidey adventure. The good news: We won't have to wait much longer. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" hits theaters on July 31, 2026. One thing is already clear: As the title suggests, "Brand New Day" marks the beginning of a completely new chapter in Peter Parker's life. "Spider-Verse" fans have reason to hope: a live-action version of Miles Morales is becoming more of a reality. A "Spider-Man" live-action adaptation featuring the popular character has been the subject of speculation for quite some time. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has now spoken about the current status of the project in an interview with Chinese outlet Watching Hollywood.

The MCU producer confirmed that they definitely have plans for a live-action version of Miles.

"I think a live-action 'Spider-Man' movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the 'Spider-Verse' series ends."

"We've been thinking and discussing more Spider-Man adventures, regardless of agreements or contracts. My production partner, Amy Pascal, is already working on it, and we've had in-depth discussions about what the next two, three, four, and five 'Spider-Man' movies might be about."

Pascal confirmed years ago that a live-action version of Miles Morales was in the works. Given Kevin Feige's recent statements, the actual realization of such a project is now more likely than ever. Tom Holland's Spider-Man could also potentially play a central role in this. The Marvel star recently hinted to Empire magazine that he would love to help shape a potential transition in the "Spider-Man" universe.

"For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter."

Nevertheless, it seems clear that a live-action version of Miles Morales is still in the planning stages. For now, "Spider-Man" fans have two other highlights to look forward to. On July 31, the big summer blockbuster "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" awaits us. A little over a year later, the "Spider-Verse" trilogy will come to a close with "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse." The Setup for Beyond the Spider-Verse

The plot of "Beyond the Spider-Verse" picks up after the dramatic cliffhanger of the previous film. As a reminder: Miles Morales has turned the Spider-Society, led by Miguel, against him. They believe that the likely impending death of Miles' father should not be prevented. For Miles, however, that's out of the question—he wants to change his father's fate at any cost.

While fleeing the Spider-Society, however, Miles accidentally ends up on the wrong Earth. There, he encounters an alternate version of himself who, in this reality, lives as the villain Prowler. Miles is taken captive by him. Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy, along with Peter B. Parker and other allies, assembles a team to rescue him.

Spot will also once again play a central role in "Beyond the Spider-Verse." The former scientist was transformed by the explosion at the end of "Into the Spider-Verse" and has possessed extraordinary powers ever since. His body is riddled with black portals that allow him to move through space and even between different dimensions. However, Spot is deeply conflicted about his fate: He blames Miles for his transformation and wants to kill Miles's father out of revenge. Due to his immense abilities, he also poses a threat to the entire multiverse.

Avengers: Doomsday

Of course, between "Brand New Day" and "Beyond the Spider-Verse," Marvel fans can look forward to yet another major highlight. "Avengers: Doomsday" is set to be the biggest MCU movie in years. Numerous Marvel stars are on board—from the classic Avengers to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, all the way to the New Avengers from "Thunderbolts*." "Doomsday" hits theaters on December 18, 2026.

Tom Cruise is stepping on the gas again! The Hollywood star is returning for the sequel to "Days of Thunder." And now, a potential director has been selected. Jonathan Levine is in talks to direct "Days of Thunder 2," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The filmmaker would be a rather surprising choice. Levine is known, among other things, for the zombie romance "Warm Bodies" and the comedy "Snatched." Very few people would have had him on their radar for a high-octane blockbuster like "Days of Thunder." The screenplay is written by Will Staples, who, among other things, had a hand in the script for the action hit "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation." In that regard, he has previously been involved in a film starring Cruise.

Days of Thunder: What the original movie was about

In the 1990 original, Cruise plays race car driver Cole Trickle. The young man is extremely ambitious and wants to make it to the very top as a NASCAR driver. It's still unclear how the story will unfold in the sequel: details about the plot have been kept under wraps so far. The only thing that's certain is that Cruise is once again set to star. He's also producing the film with Jerry Bruckheimer, who was already on board as a producer for the first installment.

The cast of "Days of Thunder" at the time included, alongside Cruise, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Nicole Kidman, Cary Elwes, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Fred Dalton Thompson, and Caroline Williams. Tony Scott directed the film. The screenplay was written by Robert Towne, who co-wrote the story with Cruise. The film grossed $157 million at the global box office. For Cruise, "Days of Thunder" also holds special personal significance: he met Nicole Kidman on set, and the two were married for eleven years.

Top Gun 3 & Digger: New movies starring Tom Cruise

With "Days of Thunder 2," the filmmakers are likely hoping for a similar success to that of "Top Gun: Maverick." The latter film is also a long-awaited sequel to a Cruise classic. As with "Days of Thunder," Tony Scott directed the original "Top Gun" from 1986. Additionally, both films were produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson. Adding to the hype is the fact that director J.J. Abrams recently spoke out enthusiastically: On social media, he assured us that Cruise will completely blow us all away with his performance. We'll soon be able to see in theaters whether the star actually lives up to the high expectations: "Digger" opens on October 2, 2026.

At last, we have confirmation: There will be a reboot of "RoboCop"! Prime Video has officially picked up a series adaptation, as reported by Variety.

The project has been in development for several years. And now it's official: The new series will initially consist of eight episodes. Whether additional episodes or even more seasons will be produced in the future remains to be seen. Either way, fans have reason to celebrate: Nothing seems to stand in the way of a "RoboCop" reboot. Initial details about the story are already available. As in Paul Verhoeven's original 1987 film, the story once again centers on a law enforcement officer who is half-human, half-machine. An official description of the story reads:

"A giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force – a robot implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer."

The creators behind the new RoboCop series

It is currently unknown whether and to what extent the series will break new ground as the plot unfolds: no further official details about the story have been announced yet. However, the creators behind the "RoboCop" series reboot have been confirmed. Peter Ocko serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. He has previously worked on various series, including "Pushing Daisies" and "The Leftovers." James Wan, a filmmaker who has already directed several box-office hits, is also involved: Among other projects, he directed the horror films "Saw" and "Insidious," as well as the superhero blockbuster "Aquaman." For the "RoboCop" series, he serves as an executive producer alongside Ocko, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett. Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier are also on board in that role: the two of them once wrote the screenplay for the first "RoboCop" film directed by Verhoeven.

James Wan is already excited about the upcoming reboot. Variety quotes him as saying:

A decades-long franchise

In Paul Verhoeven's original film, Peter Weller played the protagonist Alex Murphy, alias RoboCop. He was joined by Nancy Allen, Daniel O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, and Miguel Ferrer. The film grossed $53 million at the box office – on a budget of $13 million. Furthermore, "RoboCop" evolved into a franchise that has continued over the years in the form of additional films, TV series, and comics. In 2014, a remake of the same name directed by José Padilha was released in theaters; it had a budget of about $100 million and grossed a total of $242 million.

It will be interesting to see whether the new series leads to a major renaissance for the franchise – or whether it will ultimately be limited to the eight episodes that have now been announced. In any case, Amazon seems to be enthusiastic. Variety quotes Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, as saying:
