"Coco 2" in particular drew a lot of attention. The sequel naturally continues to center on protagonist Miguel, who is now a teenager. Actor Benjamin Bratt, who attended the D23 panel, shared further details about the plot. Bratt announced his return as the voice of Ernesto de la Cruz, the villain from the first film. He described his character's perspective – and revealed the following about the sequel:

"To some, Miguel is a little menace who ruined a career and destroyed a legacy. Ernesto de la Cruz is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the land of the dead. Proving fate has a sense of humor, Miguel must team up with a handsome superstar: me."

A first concept image shows Miguel together with his dog Dante. Additional photos were also released. "Coco 2" will be directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina. The two were also behind the first film. The release date for the sequel has also been announced – but we'll have to be patient a little longer: "Coco 2" will hit theaters in November 2029.

The Incredibles 3

Many Pixar fans are also eagerly anticipating "The Incredibles 3." An important detail regarding the sequel's timeline: According to producer Brad Bird, there won't be a time jump – so the children of the superhero family will remain their original ages. The three children are set to play a central role in "The Incredibles 3." Pixar's Peter Docter commented on this during the panel, saying:

"They want to prove that they are ready to be real Supers, and their parents aren't quite so convinced. So they've been sneaking out at night to protect the city, and it doesn't go over so well at home. To make matters worse, they are struggling to contain Jack Jack."

In keeping with the greater focus on the children, they are also prominently featured in the first-look images. At the same time, however, Docter also spoke about a new threat – and what the world of "The Incredibles" looks like after the end of the second film:

"A new threat is taking a heavy toll on Bob, who's grappling with his own relevance in a world of Supers that may have outgrown him. Because even though Supers are legal again, that doesn't mean all supers are good."

The new installment in the popular animated film series will not be directed by Brad Bird, who helmed the first two films. Instead, that task now falls to Peter Sohn. Sohn is no stranger to the Pixar universe: he directed "Elemental," for example. Bird, however, remains involved with "The Incredibles" and is responsible for the screenplay. "The Incredibles 3" is scheduled for release on June 16, 2028.

Ghost Market

In addition to the sequels mentioned above, a completely new Pixar project was also unveiled: "Ghost Market." A first clip from the animated film was shown at the event. An official plot synopsis was also released:

The story centers on the 'Ono Market – a little plate lunch shop hidden away in a remote location on Oʻahu's North Shore that serves lost spirits, stuck between life and death. "Star Wars: Starfighter" is highly anticipated. Now, attendees at the Disney D23 event were given a first look at the cinematic adventure. In the new film set in a galaxy far, far away, Ryan Gosling plays the protagonist, Kade Auberon. Young actor Flynn Gray is also set to play a central role. According to Deadline, the scenes shown at D23 offer a first glimpse of how Gosling's and Gray's characters interact with each other. When Gray's character apparently wants to take a closer look at a spaceship, Gosling's Kade Auberon responds with the words: "Didn't I tell you not to touch anything?"

There had already been speculation that Kade's character type is meant to resemble the legendary Han Solo. In other words, we might be in for a hero with an extremely cool attitude and rough charm – which would certainly fit the scene shown. Deadline describes the character as a pilot with the swagger of the cool hero Gosling once portrayed in Nicolas Winding Refn's thriller "Drive." As for the plot of "Star Wars: Starfighter," however, no major revelations were apparently made. As Variety reports, it was a short teaser that shows, among other things, Kade flying "through alien landscapes, including massive, skyscraper-sized geysers emerging from a planet's ocean."

Star Wars: Starfighter premieres 50 years after the original

Details about the story have been kept under wraps so far. However, according to Variety, it's said to be a standalone story set five years after the events of the 2019 blockbuster "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker." In any case, we'll have to wait before we can see the new film starring Ryan Gosling: "Star Wars: Starfighter" hits theaters on May 28, 2027. In addition to Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray, the cast includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. Shawn Levy is directing, and the screenplay is by Jonathan Tropper.

At D23, lead actor Gosling and director Levy were there in person to promote the film. Speaking about "Star Wars: Starfighter," Levy said:

Gosling and Levy are also teaming up on Ghost Rider

"Star Wars: Starfighter" isn't the only major franchise project Gosling is currently tackling with Levy. Under Levy's direction, Gosling will also play the lead role in "Ghost Rider," as was officially announced a few weeks ago. In the upcoming Marvel adaptation, Gosling will take on the role of a decades-old comic book hero. The Ghost Rider first appeared in August 1972 in issue #5 of the "Marvel Spotlight" series. The popular character is stunt rider Johnny Blaze, who makes a pact with the devil. This transforms him into the motorcycle-riding being with a flaming skull.

Gosling won't be the first to portray the character on screen – Ghost Rider was previously played by Nicolas Cage. There was also a TV version of the character. In the Marvel series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Gabriel Luna took on the role of Ghost Rider for several episodes, though he portrayed a different incarnation of the hero, Robbie Reyes. Elsa and Anna are back! The Disney event D23 offered the first glimpses of "Frozen 3." In the third installment of the immensely popular animated film series, wedding bells will be ringing. Anna and Kristoff are getting married. But it seems things won't stay quite so romantic for long. As reported by Deadline, the audience at D23 got to see a few scenes in which a new threat looms.

Elsa apparently finds a mysterious stone that opens a portal to another dimension, leading to a frozen, dangerous land. When Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff step through the portal, they encounter a character who seems to be up to no good. According to Deadline, the character's face wasn't revealed, but by all appearances, it's a female character with short, dark hair. We'll have to wait a while longer to find out what this is all about. "Frozen 3" hits theaters on November 24, 2027.

"Frozen" is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's 1844 fairy tale "The Snow Queen." The animated films center on the sisters Elsa and Anna. In addition to the lovingly portrayed relationship between the two, the films explore Elsa's supernatural powers, which allow her to harness snow and ice in seemingly magical ways. The story centers on Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. At first glance, the duo couldn't be more different – yet in the first two films, they team up to get to the bottom of a far-reaching conspiracy. While the second installment focused on snakes in the anthropomorphic world of "Zootopia," the new film is taking things to new heights: In "Zootopia 3," birds are set to play a central role.

Much like "Frozen," the "Zootopia" series has proven to be a success story for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The first installment was already a resounding success, raking in one billion U.S. dollars at the box office worldwide. The sequel was even more of a runaway hit: "Zootopia 2" posted spectacular box office earnings of 1.8 billion. Clay: A new film from Walt Disney Animation Studios

However, another new Disney film is scheduled for November 2028: "Clay." The animated adventure – which features "Succession" star Kieran Culkin as a voice actor – was also announced at D23. Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, commented on the plot, as reported by Deadline. He described the protagonist, Flip, with a touch of humor:

"We have a rich history of stories that celebrate inspiring mentors and their aspirational students. So, with that in mind, we asked ourselves one very important question: What if the next Disney mentor stunk? So, like all inspiring mentors, Flip runs away in the middle of the night, only to discover that Mushi is inescapable and pure chaos."

What follows is a journey through a fantastical forest, during which Flip must try to keep Mushi alive. Given the plot description, one wonders what these two unusual heroes will look like. The cast of the "X-Men" reboot directed by Jake Schreier continues to take shape. At the Disney D23 event, several stars were officially announced to be joining the highly anticipated Marvel film about the titular team of mutants, as multiple media outlets are reporting. The release date was also announced: "X-Men" will hit theaters on May 5, 2028. Arguably the most prominent new addition is Adam Driver. The "Star Wars" actor will portray the villain Mr. Sinister. In the Marvel comics the villain has a particular interest in the X-Men heroes Cyclops and Jean Grey: He is convinced that he can use their DNA to create the ultimate mutant. There was a recent rumor that Driver would play the villain Magneto – but as it turns out, he has been cast as a different antagonist.

Inde Navarette as Rogue

As for Inde Navarette, there had been speculation that she might play Mystique – since she herself had expressed interest in the character. Now we know: She will appear as Rogue in the "X-Men" movie. The sixth season of "Only Murders in the Building" could be a treat for fans of the science fiction series "Doctor Who." Now, with Peter Capaldi, another former "Doctor Who" actor is joining the hit crime comedy, as reported by Deadline.

Eventually, her husband discovers that she is hiding a terrible secret in a run-down apartment.

In the original, the plot was closely tied to divided Berlin and a spy thriller setting. For the remake, however, this historical background is set to be altered. Parker Finn will apparently transpose the story into a new setting, while the fundamental themes—the breakdown of a relationship, madness, possession, and physical horror – are to remain intact.

For over 30 years, the "Power Rangers" have appeared time and again in various TV series and movies. The latest adaptation was supposed to come from Disney+. But now the streaming service has apparently put the planned live-action series on hold, as reported by Deadline.

Development of the "Power Rangers" series began a year and a half ago. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, known as the showrunners of the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series, were set to serve as writers and executive producers. But what are the reasons for the cancellation? According to unnamed sources cited by Deadline, it wasn't due to creative differences. Instead, financial considerations are said to be the reason the project was scrapped.

What the Power Rangers are all about

At its core, the adventures of the "Power Rangers" revolve around a group of teenagers who battle evil, supernatural forces to protect humanity. The members of this heroic team wear combat suits complete with helmets, allowing them to keep their identities secret. Conveniently, each suit is a different color, so viewers can easily tell the heroes apart at all times. To fight their enemies, they use not only various weapons but also giant battle robots. The "Power Rangers" concept was inspired by the Japanese Sentai genre, which essentially revolves around a team fighting evil, with each character also assigned a specific color.

The "Power Rangers" made their debut back in 1993 with a live-action series. Since then, numerous sequels and spin-offs have followed in the form of additional series and movies, as well as comics and books. The franchise is well known, which over the years has also led to several parodies and tongue-in-cheek references in other media. For example, within the video game "Grand Theft Auto V," there is a fictional animated series called "Kung Fu Rainbow Lazer Force" that pokes fun at the "Power Rangers" franchise.

Power Rangers: Movie was not followed up

Almost ten years ago, a "Power Rangers" movie with a star-studded cast hit theaters, which was supposed to lead to several sequels. The film was directed by Dean Israelite. The story was developed by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Michele Mulroney, and Kieran Mulroney. The screenplay was written by John Gatins. The cast included Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Bill Hader, and Elizabeth Banks. Bryan Cranston also starred in the film; he had made a name for himself as a gifted character actor a few years earlier through his leading role in the acclaimed series "Breaking Bad."

But despite the star-studded cast, the film flopped. The "Power Rangers" movie grossed $142 million at the global box office. Given that the budget is said to have been $100 million, however, the earnings fell well short of expectations. As a result, the original plans for a continuation on the big screen were scrapped, and the planned sequels never materialized.

With the cancellation of the planned live-action series on Disney+, "Power Rangers" fans now have to deal with yet another setback. While this may be disappointing for many, given the franchise's longevity, we're confident it's only a matter of time before the next "Power Rangers" adaptation gets underway.

A new Bond candidate is currently making the rounds online! For many years, numerous names have been circulating as potential successors to Daniel Craig as 007 in the 26th "Bond" film. Casting has begun—and producer Amy Pascal recently hinted that an official announcement can be expected toward the end of 2026.

Still, it's of course possible that certain details and actors' names might leak out ahead of time. British TV host Richard Osman recently mentioned a hot candidate on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment:

"The name I've heard is Jack Lowden. It is definitely not a 'he's definitely got it' thing. He is definitely being strongly considered."

Jack Lowden as James Bond?

Jack Lowden certainly has experience in the right genre: The British actor is best known for the spy series "Slow Horses." The actor was also part of the ensemble cast in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" and appeared in the historical film "Mary, Queen of Scots." In the upcoming Netflix adaptation of "Pride & Prejudice," he will play Mr. Darcy.

It's hard to say whether—and to what extent—Lowden is actually in the running to be the new 007. Amazon MGM has already stated that it will not comment on specific details during the casting process. That said, casting director Nina Gold is reportedly in charge of casting the new 007. And Gold also worked on Lowden's series "Slow Horses."

The Casting Profile for the New Bond

In recent months, various actors have repeatedly been mentioned as potential Bond candidates. Rumors range from Callum Turner to "Euphoria" star Jacob Elordi to "Babygirl" actor Harris Dickinson. Fan favorites like Henry Cavill and Tom Hardy have also been discussed for quite some time. However, these actors are unlikely to be candidates due to certain criteria.

Some time ago, the industry portal Deadline reported on a casting profile for the new 007. According to the report, producers are looking for a "fresh face" and are apparently less interested in big-name actors. The ideal candidate is said to be a male actor around 30 years old. In addition, the Bond actor is supposed to be British.

When might the new James Bond movie be released?

Casting has already begun, and Bond is expected to be cast by 2026. Filming should follow in 2027. Fans of the "Bond" movies can hope for a release date in 2028 at the earliest.

Denis Villeneuve: The New Director

The director has been confirmed for some time now: By bringing in Denis Villeneuve, the producers pulled off a real coup. The Canadian is one of today's most popular directors and consistently wins over both audiences and critics with his films.

Villeneuve laid the foundation for his Hollywood career with the acclaimed thrillers "Prisoners" and "Sicario". He subsequently made a name for himself in the sci-fi genre as well, achieving great success with "Arrival" and "Blade Runner 2049". Most recently, the director wowed audiences with his "Dune" films. According to Villeneuve himself, he grew up watching the Bond films and is a huge fan of the series.

Steven Knight was brought on board to write the screenplay. Knight is best known as the creator and showrunner of the hit series "Peaky Blinders." He also co-developed the historical series "Taboo" with Tom Hardy. Knight has also made his mark on the big screen: among other works, he penned the screenplay for David Cronenberg's dark gangster thriller "Eastern Promises."

The James Bond Film Series

The "James Bond" series is one of the best-known, longest-running, and most successful film franchises in cinematic history. Since "Dr. No" in 1962, several actors have taken on the role of the British secret agent: Sean Connery was the first, followed by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and most recently, Daniel Craig.

The films combine spectacular action with espionage, exotic locations, iconic gadgets, and charismatic villains. With 25 official films to date, 007 has become a staple of pop culture over the decades. With the casting of the new Bond, a new era is now dawning. It will be interesting to see who will embody this iconic role in the future.

Ryan Coogler's "X-Files" revival is highly anticipated. One question that arises is: Will the reboot take place in the world of the original series, or will it create an entirely new universe? And: Will David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully? It's been clear for several months now that two other stars will take center stage this time around: Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. Still, it's possible that Mulder and Scully will also play a role. Now, "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter has spoken out; he is reportedly on board as an executive producer for the series reboot – and his comments sound somewhat vague, but promising.

It's not an official confirmation, but in an interview with Polygon, he at least hints that a return by Mulder and Scully isn't unlikely. The website quotes Carter as saying:

"At least Gillian, I think, is going to appear in the Coogler version. And I'm assuming David will too, so you will see Mulder and Scully there."

Chris Carter's plans

If that's indeed the case, the reboot is likely to take place in the same "X-Files" universe that Carter once created. If he has his way, however, the Coogler reboot apparently won't be the only revival of "The X-Files." He told Polygon:

"I would love to do either another reboot, or another movie. My ideas going forward are big ideas. Whether they're a TV series or a movie, I don't know, but I have big plans."

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Fans of Chris Carter, however, can already look forward to a revival of a somewhat different kind. On August 14, 2026, a director's cut version of "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" will be released on Disney+ and Hulu. The original version of the film, which Chris Carter directed and co-wrote, was released in theaters in 2008. The current director's cut, subtitled "Vrach Frankenshteyn," reflects what Carter originally envisioned, including the horror elements that were omitted from the theatrical version to secure a lower age rating. Mulder and Scully investigate a case involving, among other things, a group of abducted women.

Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot

As for Ryan Coogler's "X-Files" reboot, it will also center on an unlikely duo of two FBI agents. The highly decorated investigators are set to take over a division that deals with unexplained phenomena – one that was shut down long ago. The lead roles will be played by Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel. Deadwyler is known for her work in various productions. In recent years, she has appeared in the film "Till" and the Netflix thriller "Carry-On," among others. She was recently seen in the third season of the coming-of-age series "Euphoria." Many viewers will likely recognize Patel from the 2019 Beatles comedy "Yesterday." Most recently, he appeared in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey" alongside numerous other stars, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson.

Ryan Coogler, one of the most sought-after filmmakers today, is directing the "X-Files" reboot. With his acclaimed "Black Panther" blockbusters, the director has delivered box office hits that have grossed over two billion U.S. dollars worldwide. Most recently, he enjoyed great success with "Sinners." The vampire film won four Academy Awards at this year's Oscars, including Best Actor for Michael B.
