Will Timothée Chalamet soon be stepping back into the iconic role of the eccentric Willy Wonka? It's been clear for a while that a sequel to "Wonka" is in development. For a long time, however, things have been rather quiet around the project – until now. Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman has now provided an update on the current status of production.

According to him, we can expect the next major step in the summer of 2026. Richtman says filming is scheduled to begin in late August. Based on this timeline, "Wonka 2" could potentially hit theaters in 2027. The theatrical release calendar originally listed an untitled sequel to a Warner Bros. family film for December 2027. It's quite possible that this referred to "Wonka 2". However, that date is now reserved for the upcoming "Lord of the Rings" film "The Hunt for Gollum."

So far, the reported filming start for "Wonka 2" has not been officially confirmed. Paul King is once again behind the project. The director helmed the first film in 2023 and is also known for his popular "Paddington" movies. The film's plot is not yet known at this time. It also remains unclear which actors, besides Chalamet, might return for the sequel. But we'll keep you updated, of course!

Wonka (2023)

With "Wonka", director Paul King ventured into a reinterpretation of the famous character, deliberately adopting a different tone than previous film adaptations. The film tells the origin story of the eccentric chocolatier, following a young Willy Wonka on his journey from a penniless dreamer to a visionary inventor. Timothée Chalamet embodies the role as a charming idealist with a big heart who must stand up to a ruthless chocolate elite.

Stylistically, Wonka blends fairy-tale elements with musical sequences and a heartfelt message about friendship, creativity, and perseverance. Chalamet is supported by a star-studded ensemble, including Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, and Keegan-Michael Key. Grant's performance as an Oompa-Loompa in particular sparked plenty of conversation, highlighting the film's unique sense of humor. Overall, "Wonka" was praised above all for its visual playfulness and Chalamet's unconventional, musical performance.

The novel and Tim Burton's film

The character of Willy Wonka originally comes from Roald Dahl's children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which has delighted generations since its publication in 1964. The first film adaptation "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" was already released in the 1970s. Tim Burton's film adaptation of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", in which Johnny Depp played the role of the eccentric factory owner, has also left a particularly lasting impression on many viewers. Burton's version, however, differs from the "Wonka" adaptation starring Chalamet.

Timothée Chalamet: The Superstar Behind Wonka

For Timothée Chalamet, "Wonka" is just another milestone in a remarkably versatile career. Early in his career, he appeared in smaller roles, such as in the spy series "Homeland" or in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi epic "Interstellar". He made his international breakthrough with "Call Me by Your Name", which earned him an Academy Award nomination and instantly catapulted him into the spotlight. This was followed by acclaimed performances in "Lady Bird" and "Little Women", in which he established himself as a character actor.

At the same time, Chalamet also demonstrated his range in intense roles, such as in "Beautiful Boy" or the historical film "The King". He also filmed the cannibal drama "Bones and All" with "Call Me by Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino. By the time he took on the role of Paul Atreides in "Dune" and "Dune 2", he had firmly established himself as a global blockbuster star. Most recently, Chalamet delivered a compelling performance in "Marty Supreme". For a long time, he was considered a contender for an Academy Award for his performance, but in the end, Michael B. Jordan ("Sinners") took home the coveted trophy. Fans can next look forward to seeing Chalamet in "Dune 3", set to hit theaters on December 18.

With his mix of arthouse films and major franchise productions, Chalamet has established himself as one of the most popular and sought-after actors of his generation. So we can look forward to seeing what "Wonka 2" has in store for us.

Good news for all "Chucky" fans! According to the genre magazine BloodyDisgusting, franchise creator Don Mancini is currently working on a screenplay for a new "Chucky" movie. Stylistically, it is said to be modeled after the 2013 film "Curse of Chucky", thereby placing a stronger emphasis on horror elements once again.

According to Mancini, the project is even set to be "scary" again and will tie into the events of the "Chucky" series and the previous feature films. However, details about the cast or a release date are still under wraps. The killer doll made its last big-screen appearance in 2019 in "Child's Play", which, however, received mixed reactions from fans.

© Universal Pictures

The Unstoppable Reincarnation: Why the "Chucky" Series Dominates the Horror Genre

In the pantheon of great slasher icons, Charles Lee Ray, better known as the killer doll Chucky, has held a uniquely special place for decades. While other legendary franchises like "Halloween" or "Friday the 13th" often suffer from confusing timelines, constant reboots, or years of legal roadblocks, "Chucky" has demonstrated impressive consistency.

With the recent announcement by franchise creator Don Mancini at Steel City Con in 2026, it's clear that the possessed doll's journey is now entering a new, exciting chapter. Following the conclusion of the acclaimed TV series after three seasons, the killer doll is now preparing for a triumphant return to the big screen.

© Warner Bros.

A Franchise of Continuity and Consistency

What fundamentally distinguishes the "Child's Play" series from almost every other horror franchise is its radical fidelity to its own story. Since the release of the original film in 1988, the narrative threads have never been severed or replaced by a complete remake. Don Mancini has written nearly every screenplay in the series himself and has served as director or showrunner for the newer films as well as the entire series.

The result of this creative consistency is a cohesive universe that has grown organically over 35 years. At a time when the horror genre often oscillates between artistically ambitious "elevated horror" and pure nostalgia marketing, Chucky has found a niche that perfectly caters to both deep-rooted cult appeal and modern themes.

The Success of the TV Series as a Turning Point

The "Chucky" TV series, which aired from 2021 to 2024, marked a significant turning point for the entire franchise. After the films "Curse of Chucky" and "Cult of Chucky" were produced directly for the home video market, the long-form television series proved that the concept of a murderous doll remains compelling even across multiple episodes.

The series was praised by critics and fans alike for deepening the mythology while introducing a new generation of characters. The fact that the series ended after three seasons despite its huge success came as a surprise to many observers, but for Mancini, this simply presented an opportunity to bring the story back to the medium where it all began.

A New Chapter for the Big Screen

A key point for fans is the assurance that the existing continuity will not be abandoned despite the change in setting. Mancini places great emphasis on ensuring that the new film takes into account the events of the TV series and the previous films and weaves them together coherently. This means that longtime viewers will be rewarded for their loyalty, while the film can simultaneously serve as an entry point for a new cinematic audience. The decision to release the next installment in theaters worldwide also underscores the high standing the franchise has regained in pop culture.

© Capelight Pictures

The Timeless Relevance of a Horror Icon

Chucky's relevance in 2026 can be explained above all by the successful blend of nostalgia and evolution. Chucky is no longer just a simple doll running through children's rooms with a knife; he has evolved into a multifaceted character capable of replicating himself and infiltrating entire institutions. Brad Dourif's iconic voice remains the indispensable heart of the series, as it lends the character a malevolent personality that no computer program in the world could ever replace. Jennifer Tilly has also hinted that her journey alongside the killer doll is far from over.

A Conclusion on the Future of the Franchise

In summary, the horror series is currently undergoing a phase of powerful renewal. The planned shift from television back to the big screen is not a sign of weakness, but rather a promotion back into the premier league of horror. By returning to the dark style of the early days, Don Mancini proves that he understands the audience's desires perfectly.

According to a rumor, Sydney Sweeney is reportedly in talks for the new "X-Men" movie—to play Emma Frost. The speculation about her alleged role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot comes from the insider MyTimeToShineHello. However, there has been no confirmation so far. As such, the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.

Emma Frost made her first appearance in the "X-Men" comics back in 1980. She was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The mutant possesses telepathic powers. Additionally, her body can take on an organic diamond form. Initially, Emma Frost, also known as the White Queen, was an enemy of the X-Men. Over time, however, she switched sides and joined the superhero team. On the big screen, Emma Frost was portrayed by "Mad Men" actress January Jones in 2011's "X-Men: First Class."

X-Men wouldn't be Sydney Sweeney's first Marvel film

For Sydney Sweeney, this wouldn't be her first appearance in a Marvel film. She has already appeared in Sony's Spider-Man Universe in her role in "Madame Web." However, a comeback there isn't expected. After all, the film turned out to be a box office flop. And: Sony's Spider-Man Universe is reportedly set to undergo a reboot (as we reported). A role as Emma Frost in the highly anticipated "X-Men" film would certainly be another massive boost to her career. That said, things are going well for the actress either way.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

As the lead actress in the current thriller "The Housemaid," she recently landed a major box office hit. So far, the film has grossed nearly $400 million worldwide. A sequel is already a done deal. She will also star in the sequel, this time alongside Kirsten Dunst, among others. Additionally, Sydney Sweeney is returning as a cast member of the coming-of-age series "Euphoria." In the current third season, she will once again appear alongside stars like Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.

Further speculation about the X-Men reboot

As for the new "X-Men" movie, speculation isn't limited to Sydney Sweeney potentially playing Emma Frost. Just recently, additional potential candidates for the reboot were brought into the mix. The discussion centered on the casting of Rogue and Beast. "Marty Supreme" actress Odessa A'zion and "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" star Peter Claffey are reportedly in the running for the two superhero roles (as we previously reported). In addition, there has been speculation for some time now that "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink will play the X-Men mutant Jean Grey in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" – should that turn out to be true, we might also see her in the new "X-Men" movie.

Two new writers for the X-Men movie

What is already certain, however, is that two new writers have joined the "X-Men" film, as director Jake Schreier recently revealed: Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. The filmmaker had previously collaborated with both of them on the Marvel film "Thunderbolts." Otherwise, the duo is best known for their work on TV series. Lee Sung Jin is the creator and showrunner of the acclaimed series "Beef." Joanna Calo is the co-showrunner of the equally acclaimed series "The Bear: King of the Kitchen." Regarding the new writers, Jake Schreier told Collider:

"When you go back and read X-Men, there's ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that's what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be."

Previously, other writers had already been working on the script for the new "X-Men" film. Michael Lesslie had most recently revised an earlier draft by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean. While Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are now taking over the Marvel reboot, Lesslie is in turn involved as a new writer on the next "Fast & Furious" film, "Fast Forever."

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart could soon be teaming up again on the big screen! According to Deadline magazine, "Ride Along 3" is in the early stages of development. Director Will Packer is also reportedly back on board.

The fact that there will be another sequel to the action series at all is primarily thanks to screenwriter Daniel Gold, whom Universal Pictures recently signed. Although Cube, Hart, and Packer have been hoping for a third installment behind the scenes for years, the plans had previously fallen through due to creative differences. However, an initial draft of Gold's screenplay is said to have finally convinced the trio to tackle Part 3. Exactly what the plot will entail and when "Ride Along 3" is set to be released remains unknown at this time.

The "Ride Along" series centers on the bumbling security guard Ben Barber and the tough-as-nails police officer James Payton. While Ben had to prove himself during a nerve-wracking patrol through Atlanta in the first film, the duo faced off against a powerful drug dealer in the second installment. Together, the two films grossed over $279 million worldwide.

Between sirens and fits of laughter: The best movie recommendations for fans of buddy-cop comedies

There is hardly any genre in cinema as enduring and popular as the buddy-cop comedy. The formula sounds simple, but executing it is a true art: Take two characters who couldn't be more different, force them into a dangerous situation, and wait for the sparks to fly. Usually, a rule-obsessed, experienced investigator teams up with a chaotic, brash rookie or an eccentric. As the bullets fly, so do the punchlines.

© Warner Bros.

The undisputed classics: Where it all began

When talking about buddy cops, you can't ignore the '80s and '90s. That era laid the foundation for everything we love today in movies like "Ride Along". At the very top of the list, of course, is "Lethal Weapon". The dynamic between the death-defying Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and the soon-to-retire Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) set the gold standard. Murtaugh's iconic line, "I'm too old for this shit," became a catchphrase for an entire generation of movie fans.

Another heavyweight of this era is "Beverly Hills Cop". Eddie Murphy plays Axel Foley with such energy and improvisational skill that the lines between crime thriller and stand-up comedy blur. Even though Foley often acts as a loner, it's his interaction with the stiff Beverly Hills cops that gives the film its special charm. These movies taught us that a good buddy-cop film doesn't just thrive on action, but above all on the dialogue and the gradual bonding of two unlikely partners.

The Modern Era: Faster, Louder, Funnier

With the turn of the millennium, the tone shifted. The action became more opulent, the humor often self-referential. A perfect example of this is the "Bad Boys" series. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence portray Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett with a coolness that is broken by constant banter and marriage-like bickering. Here, the focus isn't just on the investigations, but on the protagonists' personal lives and deep friendship, which remains unbreakable despite all their differences.

If you prefer something a bit quirkier, you can't miss Edgar Wright's "Cornetto Trilogy." "Hot Fuzz" is a loving parody and, at the same time, an excellent homage to the genre. Simon Pegg as a hyper-correct London elite cop who is transferred to a sleepy village and meets the scatterbrained, action-movie-obsessed Nick Frost there is comedy gold. The film takes every cliché of the genre and creatively flips it on its head without losing any of the suspense.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The Hidden Gems: A Breath of Fresh Air in the Genre

Alongside the big blockbusters, there are a few gems that offer interesting variations on the genre. An absolute must-see for fans of intelligent humor is "The Nice Guys". Although Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe play private detectives rather than police officers here, the film employs all the hallmarks of the buddy-cop comedy. The chemistry between the bumbling Gosling and the hard-hitting Crowe in a 1970s setting is brilliant and proves that the genre works even without a police badge.

Also worth mentioning is "The Other Guys" starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The film pokes fun at the clichés of "super cops" and puts the desk jockeys who normally never get the spotlight at the center. The absurdity of the situations and the completely unpredictable dialogue make this film a favorite for viewers who like things a bit more anarchic.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Why We Love These Movies

What makes these movies so appealing? It's the universal story of friendship and respect that blossoms under adverse circumstances. We love watching two people who can barely stand each other at first learn to rely on one another completely. The action provides the adrenaline rush, but the human element and the liberating laughter ensure that we want to see these characters again and again.

The X-Men are back! Professor X, Magneto and more will soon be appearing in the highly anticipated "Avengers: Doomsday". But the future of the "X-Men" is already set beyond that. A new "X-Men" movie is in development! According to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, Marvel has now set its sights on two new actors for the project.

Odessa A'zion as Rogue?

Specifically, Sneider discussed the casting of Rogue and Beast on the podcast "The Hot Mic". For Rogue, he mentioned that they are interested in "Marty Supreme" star Odessa A'zion. Rogue is a mutant with the ability to absorb the memories, powers, and life energy of others through physical touch. In the original "X-Men" films, Rogue is one of the central characters and was portrayed by Anna Paquin. There, she meets Professor X and attends his school for gifted youngsters.

© TOBIS / A24

Peter Claffey as Beast?

Marvel may also have a candidate in mind for Beast. Sneider mentions the name Peter Claffey. The actor most recently garnered attention as the lead character Dunk in the "Game of Thrones" spin-off "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". Beast (aka Hank McCoy) is a mutant known for his unique combination of superhuman intelligence and physical strength. The character has been played in the past by Kelsey Grammer and Nicholas Hoult. Grammer will reprise the role in "Doomsday".

© HBO

What We Know About the New X-Men Film

However, Sneider emphasizes that nothing is finalized yet. The casting of A'zion and Claffey is not confirmed; they are merely candidates Marvel is reportedly interested in. Nevertheless, the casting process could begin soon. After all, a key step in production was recently completed: the creative team is in place.

The reboot will be directed by "Thunderbolts" director Jake Schreier. Most recently, a new writing team has also been brought on board: Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. All three worked together on "Thunderbolts". So, a well-established team awaits us for the new "X-Men" film. You can find out more about the creative team and what they're planning for the new "X-Men" film here.

© 20th Century Fox

Possible Release Date

Exactly when the film will be released is still uncertain at this point. A 2028 release seems realistic. A look at the theatrical calendar shows that Disney has scheduled four slots for as-yet-untitled Marvel films in 2028. It's quite possible that the "X-Men" film will premiere on one of those dates.

The X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday

But for now, Marvel fans are looking forward to "Avengers: Doomsday" and the return of several original "X-Men" actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden. A first teaser already offers a glimpse of what's to come.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The X-Men on the Big Screen

For many fans, the return of the mutants to the big screen is also a trip down memory lane – after all, the "X-Men" films have had a decisive influence on superhero cinema for more than two decades.

It all began in 2000 with "X-Men", directed by Bryan Singer. The film is considered a pioneer of modern superhero cinema, long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe came into being. At the center are the mutants – people with special abilities who live in a world that fears and rejects them. With characters like Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen), the film established central conflicts surrounding integration, discrimination, and power. Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, also quickly became a fan favorite.

The sequels "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" continued the story and, in particular, deepened the tensions between humans and mutants. While "X2" is often cited as one of the best superhero films of its time, the third installment received a somewhat mixed reception.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

The 2011 Reboot

The franchise was reimagined in 2011 with "X-Men: First Class". The film tells the backstory of Professor X and Magneto and sets the plot during the Cold War. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender took on the younger versions of the iconic characters.

This was followed by "X-Men: Days of Future Past", which brought the old and new casts together and incorporated time travel, as well as "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix". These films expanded the universe, focused more on ensemble stories, and reimagined familiar comic book storylines.

Spin-offs: Wolverine and Deadpool

At the same time, the "X-Men" universe continued to evolve through spin-offs. Wolverine was a particular focus with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "The Wolverine", and the highly acclaimed "Logan". The latter presented a significantly darker, more mature version of the character and is considered by many to be one of the best superhero movies of all time.

The "Deadpool" films starring Ryan Reynolds struck a completely different tone. "Deadpool", "Deadpool 2", and "Deadpool & Wolverine" deliberately broke with the conventions of the genre. With their self-deprecating humor, direct address to the audience, and a much edgier tone, they became huge hits and significantly expanded the scope of the "X-Men" universe. The "X-Men" world was further expanded with the film "New Mutants".

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

TV Shows in the "X-Men" Universe

The franchise has also expanded into the realm of TV shows. "Legion" told a standalone, psychologically driven story centered on a powerful mutant and stood out stylistically from the films. "The Gifted", on the other hand, presented a more classic scenario: a family on the run from a world that persecutes mutants. However, "X-Men '97" is particularly popular among fans.

Overall, the "X-Men" films have had a lasting impact on the superhero genre – from the first serious comic book adaptations to experimental spin-offs and TV series. With the upcoming reboot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise now faces another fresh start, one that is set to finally usher the mutants into the next era.

"Ray Gunn" is the new film from the creator of "The Incredibles": Brad Bird. An exact release date for the animated film has not yet been set. However, "Ray Gunn" is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026, as the streaming service announced. The images in our article give you a first glimpse of the film.

"Ray Gunn" is set in an alternate future. The plot centers on the title character, Raymond Gunn, a private detective who stands out as an anomaly in the sprawling city of Metropia. That's because, in this world, most investigative work has been taken over by machines. Soon, Gunn is drawn into a case involving aliens and murder. And Venus Nova, the world's most famous pop star. Despite her success, her scandals are becoming a problem for the artist: not only is her career at stake—but possibly her life as well.

© Netflix

Renowned voice actors for Raymond Gunn and Venus Nova

Two renowned voice actors were secured for the two protagonists. The character of Raymond Gunn is voiced by Sam Rockwell, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and was most recently seen in the science fiction film "Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die." Scarlett Johansson, in turn, lends her voice to Venus Nova. The actress also boasts an impressive filmography. In addition to smaller dramas like "Marriage Story," she has also appeared in blockbusters such as "Jurassic World: Rebirth." Among her best-known roles is the superhero Black Widow, who has already helped save the world in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She speaks enthusiastically about her work on "Ray Gunn." Netflix quotes her as saying:

"Having the opportunity to collaborate with Brad Bird is a career milestone for me. I have loved his work my entire life. This project is so uniquely special because it is a total realization of where Brad is currently on his artistic journey. I can't wait for audiences to see this extraordinary animation that looks like nothing else out there."

Tom Waits takes on another role in the animated film. The musician and actor voices Eyera, a one-eyed alien whom the protagonist Raymond Gunn trusts like no other.

© Netflix

"A blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the '40s"

Brad Bird serves as director and producer on "Ray Gunn." He also co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew Robbins. The idea for "Ray Gunn" has been in Bird's mind for over 30 years. The animated film's retrofuturistic look stems from a blend of two genres he envisioned from the start. Netflix quotes him as saying:

"It was always meant to be a blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the '40s."

In doing so, "Ray Gunn" aims to prove once again that animated films aren't just for kids—and thus dispel a prejudice that, despite countless counterexamples, still persists. For Bird, one thing is certain:

"Animation as a medium is too interesting to limit what kind of stories can be told."

Brad Bird: Animation Hits and Mission Impossible

His love for the art of animation was already evident in Brad Bird's directorial debut, "The Iron Giant." The animated film about the friendship between a boy and a giant robot won over critics and laid the foundation for further acclaimed films, including the Pixar hits "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille." In addition to animated films, however, Bird has also distinguished himself in the live-action genre. His "Mission: Impossible" film "Ghost Protocol" is one of the highlights of the action series starring Tom Cruise.

And what does the future hold? In addition to "Ray Gunn," another installment of "The Incredibles" is in the works. The third adventure of the titular superhero family is set to follow in 2028. Unlike the first two installments of the successful animated film series, however, "Incredibles 3" will not be directed by Brad Bird. This time, Peter Sohn is at the helm. Bird is, however, once again involved in the story.

The time has finally come: a "Metal Gear Solid" movie is in the works! After the project was stuck in development hell for over a decade, there is now concrete news for all Solid Snake fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein – who most recently directed "Final Destination: Bloodlines" – are set to helm the project.

Lipovsky and Stein stated in a joint statement that they feel deeply honored to bring Hideo Kojima's legendary stealth-action saga to life. They described the original game as a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that revolutionized the world of video games forever.

A film adaptation was previously announced in 2012, directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. At the time, Oscar Isaac was set to play the role of elite soldier Solid Snake. It is not yet known whether Lipovsky and Stein will stick with Isaac as the lead actor. According to initial reports, we can expect a film that is entertaining, commercially successful, and character-driven. A release date has not yet been announced.

The Legacy of Outer Heaven: Why Metal Gear Solid Changed the Video Game World Forever

When a lone submarine entered the waters of the fictional island of Shadow Moses in Alaska on September 3, 1998, it marked the beginning of more than just a risky infiltration mission. It was the moment when the medium of video games lost its innocence and came of age. Hideo Kojima's "Metal Gear Solid" for the first PlayStation is far more than just a successful title; it is a cultural phenomenon whose significance in video game history can hardly be overstated. But what accounts for the cult status of this series, which continues to captivate millions of fans worldwide to this day?

© Konami

The Birth of "Cinematic Gaming"

Before "Metal Gear Solid" (MGS) was released, stories in video games were often utilitarian. You rescued princesses or defeated aliens, while the plot was usually told through short text boxes or simple animations between levels. Kojima broke with this tradition. He used the PlayStation's limited processing power to create a cinematic experience unlike anything that had come before.

With the use of professional voice acting, dynamic camera movements, and long, gripping cutscenes rendered in-game graphics, "MGS" blurred the line between film and game. Kojima, a self-proclaimed cineaste, brought techniques like depth of field and dramatic cuts to a medium that had previously been viewed more as a toy. In doing so, he laid the foundation for what we now call "cinematic gaming" – a standard that modern blockbusters like "The Last of Us" or "God of War" still follow today.

Stealth Instead of Mindless Gunplay: A Gaming Revolution

"MGS" also defined an entire genre: the stealth-action game. While other action titles of the 90s focused on eliminating every enemy in the room, "MGS" rewarded the player for doing the opposite. As Solid Snake, you were outnumbered, alone against an army. Shadows became your ally, cardboard boxes your iconic hiding spots.

This strategic component challenged players' intelligence. You had to study patrol patterns, avoid making noise, and use gadgets wisely. "Tactical Espionage Action" was born. "MGS" taught us that restraint can be more exciting than pure aggression – a lesson that games like Splinter Cell or Hitman later perfected.

© Konami

Breaking the Fourth Wall

However, what ultimately elevated "Metal Gear Solid" to the pantheon of video games was Kojima's delight in experimenting with the player's reality. The battle against Psycho Mantis, an antagonist with telepathic abilities, is legendary. Mantis "read" the player's memory card and commented on other installed games like Castlevania. He even forced the player to switch the controller port on the console to circumvent his mind control.

Such meta-elements turned the game into an interactive experience that extended far beyond the screen. Kojima used the medium itself as part of the narrative and proved that video games are a form of art capable of playing with their audience's expectations in a way that no book or film can.

Political Depth and Philosophical Questions

In terms of content, the series set standards that remain unmatched to this day. Behind the façade of a spy thriller lay complex explorations of nuclear deterrence, genetics, the manipulation of information, and a soldier's legacy. In "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" (2001), Kojima already addressed the dangers of memes, algorithms, and digital censorship – topics that seem alarmingly prophetic in today's age of social media and fake news.

The characters were not one-dimensional heroes or villains. Even antagonists like Sniper Wolf or The Boss (in "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater") were given tragic backstories that evoked genuine empathy in the player. MGS forced its audience to question the morality of war and the orders one carried out as a player.

An Enduring Legacy

The cult status of "Metal Gear Solid" stems from this unique blend of technical innovation, gameplay depth, and an almost eccentric artistic vision. Hideo Kojima created a world that was simultaneously silly (think of the countless jokes about excrement or the humor in radio communications) and deeply philosophical.

Today, nearly 30 years after the first installment, the series' significance to the industry is well established. It proved that video games can tell complex stories, make political statements, and be pure entertainment all at once. The announcement of new remakes and films shows that the appetite for the world of Solid Snake and Big Boss remains undiminished. "Metal Gear Solid" is not just a game – it is a monument to the boundless creativity of a medium that continually surpasses itself.

"Spaceballs 2" is coming! It's been known for a while that Mel Brooks' cult classic is getting a sequel. Now fans finally have confirmation of exactly when the film will hit the big screen. The release date has been revealed! The release is scheduled for the 40th anniversary year of "Spaceballs." The cult film was released back in 1987. In the spring of 2027, the long wait will come to an end. The theatrical release is set for April 23, 2027.

The cast of Spaceballs 2: Rick Moranis and Co.

Probably the biggest casting surprise is the return of Rick Moranis. The actor will once again take on his legendary role as Dark Helmet. Moranis became best known for cult films of the 1980s such as "Ghostbusters." His return is all the more remarkable because he had largely retired from acting years ago.

Bill Pullman is also back: The star of "Independence Day" returns as Lone Starr. He is even set to appear on screen alongside his son. Lewis Pullman, known from "Thunderbolts*," is reportedly on board as Starbust. His character is believed to be the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa.

Fans of the series will likely find another development particularly interesting: Princess Vespa has since become Queen Vespa. According to reports, Daphne Zuniga will once again slip into her iconic role. Also joining the cast are "Nope" actress Keke Palmer and Josh Gad, who is also contributing to the screenplay.

Spaceballs 2: The First Announcement Teaser

"Spaceballs 2" is directed by Josh Greenbaum, who is known for the comedy series "New Girl", among other projects. Behind the scenes, Mel Brooks – the mastermind behind the first film – is also involved once again. This time, he serves as a producer and is also set to reprise his cult role as Yogurt – at the impressive age of 99.

A short teaser announcing the film has already been released. As soon as the first full trailer is released, you'll find it in the KinoCheck app and on our YouTube channel.

Spaceballs: The Cult Classic from the '80s

The original "Spaceballs" is still considered one of the great cult films of the science fiction genre – primarily because it brilliantly parodies the genre itself. Directed by Mel Brooks, who also co-wrote the screenplay and starred in the film, a comedy was created in the late 1980s that deliberately pokes fun at well-known sci-fi classics. Above all, the "Star Wars" films served as inspiration, with their themes, characters, and iconic moments exaggerated and humorously reimagined in the film.

The Plot of the Classic

At the center of the plot is the heroic adventurer Lone Starr, played by Bill Pullman, who, together with his companion Barf, attempts to rescue Princess Vespa. His adversary is the clumsy villain Lord Helmchen, portrayed by Rick Moranis, who, with his oversized helmet, has long since become one of the most iconic figures in film comedy. The ensemble is further enriched by Mel Brooks himself.

The Humor of Spaceballs

What sets "Spaceballs" apart is its unique humor: The film combines slapstick, sharp wordplay, and numerous meta-gags that deliberately break the fourth wall. In doing so, it takes aim not only at the science fiction genre but also at Hollywood itself. Many of these jokes have evolved into true running gags over the years and are deeply embedded in pop culture.

Over the years, "Spaceballs" has become a cult classic, building a steadily growing fan base primarily through TV broadcasts and home video releases. Today, the film is considered one of the most influential examples of successful genre parodies – and it is precisely this cult status that is fueling such great anticipation for "Spaceballs 2."

There's going to be a remake of "Basic Instinct"! The controversial 1992 original became a box office hit – and turned Sharon Stone into a global star. Now, former screenwriter Joe Eszterhas is working on a reboot of the cult thriller.

In an interview with The Guardian, he revealed that the story centers on a group of copycat killers. Supernatural elements are also said to play a significant role. He mentioned Emerald Fennell, who most recently directed "Wuthering Heights", as a potential director. However, this was quickly and firmly denied by the filmmaker herself. He also described the project as "anti-woke" and leveled sharp criticism at today's film industry.

While official information about the cast is still being withheld, there has already been a clear and extremely sharp rejection from one quarter. In a typically direct comment to The Guardian, Sharon Stone expressed massive doubts about Eszterhas's current abilities. It is not yet known when the reboot will be released or whether Michael Douglas will return in his role.

Movie recommendations in the style of "Basic Instinct"

The erotic thriller from the 1990s defined a genre all its own, one that thrives on a cool, shadowy aesthetic, dangerous obsessions, and a moral gray area. Paul Verhoeven's 1992 masterpiece "Basic Instinct" remains the ultimate expression of this style to this day. The film is known not only for its infamous interrogation scene, but above all for its cool, noir atmosphere and the highly intelligent psychological cat-and-mouse game between Catherine Tramell and Nick Curran. But cinema also has a number of other films to offer that carry the same dangerous DNA.

© StudioCanal

The Birth of Modern Obsession

Before Sharon Stone took up the ice-pick scepter, Kathleen Turner redefined the image of the modern femme fatale in the classic "Body Heat". In the sweltering heat of Florida, a story unfolds that you can literally feel through the screen. As in "Basic Instinct", a supposedly clever lawyer is completely manipulated by his uncontrollable desire.

It is a slow, almost hypnotic descent into crime, where passion is the only currency that counts. This film laid the foundation for the aesthetic of the erotic thriller by dressing up the classic film noir of the 1940s in a modern, more revealing guise.

The clinical perfection of manipulation

Several decades later, David Fincher took up these themes and perfected them in his film "Gone Girl". The protagonist, Amy Dunne, can be seen as the spiritual successor to Catherine Tramell, as she is just as highly intelligent and manipulative and is always three steps ahead of the law.

The film captivates with its clinically pristine visuals and razor-sharp editing, which creates a deeply unsettling effect. The unpredictability of the plot, in particular, mirrors the feeling of "Basic Instinct", as the viewer can never be certain who is actually the victim and who is the perpetrator in this cruel game. This is less about the physical act and more about total control over the narrative and one's fellow human beings.

© 20th Century Studios

Playing with expectations and the sleaze factor

Anyone who appreciates Paul Verhoeven's provocative and sometimes almost campy undertones cannot miss the film "Wild Things". In the glittering but morally rotten swamps of Florida, a labyrinth of twists and double meanings unfolds. Sex is consistently used here as a weapon and a means of power, with the film deliberately playing on the audience's voyeuristic expectations. The result is an atmosphere that feels both cheap and brilliantly constructed, making the film a prime example of the excessive thriller of the late '90s. Here, no one trusts anyone, and every revelation merely leads deeper into a swamp of greed and betrayal.

The Return of the Master and the End of Taboos

To truly understand the fascination with this style, it's worth taking a look at the master's own late work. In "Elle", Paul Verhoeven once again demonstrates why he is the king of provocation. Isabelle Huppert portrays a woman who, after an assault, begins a psychological power game with her attacker rather than assuming the role of victim. The film breaks every social taboo and denies the audience a simple moral judgment.

As in "Basic Instinct", the boundaries between pain and pleasure, as well as between right and wrong, blur in a way that keeps the viewer thinking long after the credits roll. Films like this challenge us to question our own moral boundaries while we watch, fascinated, as the characters run headlong into their doom. The aesthetics of danger remain a timeless motif of cinema that captivates us time and again.

When can we expect the next installment full of dinosaur action? It has been rumored for some time that a new "Jurassic World" movie is in development. An insider report now offers the first clues as to what the production schedule might look like.

According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, filming is set to begin as early as fall 2026. Scarlett Johansson is also reportedly on board again. The Hollywood star previously played the protagonist Zora Bennett in "Jurassic World: Rebirth". This makes the return of her co-stars Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey seem realistic as well.

New Title for Jurassic World 5?

Recently, a rumor has also been circulating that the new film could be titled "Jurassic World: Liberation." Jeff Sneider, another insider, reported that director Gareth Edwards – known for "Rogue One" and "Jurassic World: Rebirth" – could return to the director's chair.

However, confirmation is still pending. The insider's report should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. If the information about the start of filming is accurate, a release in late 2027 or sometime in 2028 would be realistic. After all, a "Jurassic World" film still requires a significant amount of post-production work. Either way: We'll definitely keep you updated!

A new dinosaur movie is on the way: The End of Oak Street

By the way: Dinosaur fans don't necessarily have to wait until the next "Jurassic World" movie. "The End of Oak Street" is set to hit theaters as early as summer 2026. However, this isn't your typical dinosaur action flick – the first trailer focuses more on a mystery element. With Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the film also boasts a star-studded cast. "The End of Oak Street" hits theaters on August 14, 2026. You can watch the first trailer here!

The Jurassic Phenomenon

The enduring fascination with the "Jurassic" series is no surprise: Since the release of "Jurassic Park" in 1993, the franchise has been one of the most influential and successful film series of all time. Director Steven Spielberg set new standards in visual effects at the time, combining groundbreaking CGI technology with animatronic dinosaurs. The result was not only a global cinematic event but also a cultural phenomenon that has had a lasting impact on the portrayal of dinosaurs in pop culture.

In the years that followed, the story continued with films such as "Jurassic Park: The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III". While these sequels were commercially successful, it was the first film in particular that maintained its iconic status. In terms of content, the series has always revolved around the central questions of scientific responsibility, the limits of human control, and the consequences when nature cannot be tamed. At the same time, "Jurassic Park" delivers that signature Spielberg sense of adventure.

The Jurassic World Series

With "Jurassic World", the franchise was successfully revived over a decade later. The film shifted the action to a fully operational dinosaur theme park, striking a chord with modern blockbuster audiences. This was followed by "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" and "Jurassic World: Dominion," which further expanded the story and ultimately allowed dinosaurs and humans to coexist permanently in a shared world.

The "Jurassic World" series focuses more on spectacular action and global threat scenarios, while the original "Jurassic Park" films relied more on suspense and an almost horror-like atmosphere. Nevertheless, the core remains the same: the unpredictable power of nature and the question of whether humanity is truly ready to tamper with it.

<picture></picture>
<use xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="/images/sprites.svg#kc-play"></use>

Please enable JavaScript for the domains
kinocheck.com resp. *.kinocheck.com
to watch our videos.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

With "Jurassic World: Rebirth", the franchise was recently steered in a new direction. The film functions less as a continuation of the previous "Jurassic World" series and more as a sort of fresh start. The film focuses on a new plot and new characters. The official plot description reads as follows:

Five years after the events of "Jurassic World Dominion", the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

How closely the next "Jurassic World" film will tie into "Rebirth" remains to be seen. One thing is certain, however: the franchise will continue to be a cornerstone of modern blockbuster cinema.
