At the end of the 1960s, Roger Vadim directed an erotic comedy called "Barbarella", which is still very popular among fans of the genre today. Up-and-coming star Sydney Sweeney appears to be among these fans, as she will be playing the space agent in a remake.

About two years ago, Sony Pictures first announced that a remake of "Barbarella" was being worked on and that "Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney would be involved in the project as a producer in addition to her role as the leading actress.

Recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sweeney revealed her passion for the character and stressed how excited she was to get to explore the role. She praised Barbarella's unconventional approach to using her feminine charms as a weapon to stand up to her male opponents. She also mentioned that she had always wanted to work in science fiction one day.

However, the actress did not want to comment on the director's position. Before, rumors were circulating that the remake could possibly be directed by "Baby Driver" director Edgar Wright.

In a previous interview with GQ, Sweeney also emphasized that her involvement in Sony's "Madame Web" was purely strategic. This allowed her to build relationships with Sony and ultimately secure the projects "Anyone but You" and "Barbarella".
