Overview

Loki has formed a new alliance with the Chitauri. With their help and that of the Tesseract, he is trying to subjugate Earth on behalf of Thanos.

When Loki seizes the powerful crystal, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury immediately launches the "Avengers Initiative." With the help of Natasha Romanoff, he manages to bring Bruce Benner out of his exile. Fury sends Agent Phil Coulson to investigate previous research on the Tesseract and enlists Steve Rogers to help him regain possession of the Tesseract. In Stuttgart, Loki faces the Avengers for the first time and surrenders. Later, while imprisoned on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s aircraft carrier, disagreements arise among the Avengers about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s plan for using the weapon. During the battle against the enemy, Banner transforms into the Hulk, and Romanoff intervenes to save Barton. Thus, Loki uses the chaos to free himself from captivity.

With the help of the Tesseract, Loki opens a wormhole to allow the Chitarui to get to New York. Now the heroes must fight not only Loki and the Tesseract, but an entire army. This will only succeed if they finally manage to act as a team.
